How important is it that a guy smells good?

Yes I bathe regularly, but I don't use cologne. How important is it that I smell good. I'm not rich so I can't buy expensive colognes and such.

You can buy decent smelling cologne from the pharmacy for not too much money, or even Wal-Mart (or one of those types of stores).

I think having good hygiene and having a "good" body odor is pretty much a must for anything, whether the person be male or female.

It's pretty important. But good doesn't necessarily mean cologne. I don't care for almost all colognes, and especially don't care for strong ones or overuse of them.

Good can simply mean clean & fresh.

Also, here's a great cheap tip for ya: Get yourself a bottle of orange blossom water (made for drinking) & pour it in a dollar store spray bottle. Spritz it on your skin after you shower. You'll smell good/fresh/clean - but subtle vs. strong. The essential oil from the blood orange blossom, Neroli, has been the base essential oil for every fine perfume and cologne for hundreds of years. You can buy a bottle of orange blossom water for less than $3. It's also an anti-anxietal scent, so you feel pretty calm when inhaling it after spraying it in your face. It's also antibacterial and a natural deodorizer. I use it as a body spray after I shower, as well as in my hair to style it a bit w/o using any gel/crap. I've been buying Cortas brand at a local deli. Google it for a pic of the glass bottle w/ blue label.

Not real important. I smell good a lot of the time (I take frequent showers) and women are still repelled.

Meanwhile, a guy who smells like complete ass and puke will have a woman hanging off his shoulder.

It's important to smell decently, and to wear clean clothes. Some women like colognes; others don't.

Not smelling bad is vital. However, not smelling bad means regular bathing and not having a terrible natural body smell rather than any artificial smells.

It is extremely important that you smell good. To some people that can just mean smelling like soap and shampoo and deodorant. To some people, not in a professional context, and not everyone, it can include smelling like fresh sweat, like you had a recent shower and them worked out. To some, not all, it can include smelling like cologne.

If you like smelling like cologne or are trying to attract someone who prefers guys who smell like cologne, try the cologne shelves at TJ Maxx and Ross. You can get nice name brand stuff for $10-30 that would normally be around $48 or more dollars.

Also, and I say this as a precaution, not as an accusation, remember that it only takes 1-2 sprays. It isn't necessary to use a lot.

For me the best smell one can have is no smell at all. Be clean, use antiperspirant and avoid eating garlic and you are fine. Cologne is overrated. Personally I can't even stand next to a guy that uses one.

Clean and fresh is best, no smell is fine, a little sweaty is fine, cologne smell makes vomit.

From my experience, everything is fine as long as you take showers and brush your teeth. You might also want to use a special shampoo, stronger deodorant, powder for your feet or anyhing else if you feel like you need it.

Also, I don't like when people wear too much perfume or cologne even if it smells good because it triggers my asthma and my allergies.

For me, it's important that the guy not smell bad.

Smelling good is a nice bonus.

When most people haven't used colognes for long, I think that they tend to use them far too heavily. A lot of older men who use colognes use them far more gently.

If you must use a cologne, however much you are tempted to use, you are probably better off using only a tenth of that much.
