Where could someone find a neurotypical mentor who could go with them to meetups, and help them to learn to initiate conversation with someone they would like to date?

If you know how to find someone like this in Michigan, it would be most helpful.

That's what I want to do when I retire. Be a sort of mentor like what you're describing.

Even though I'm on the Spectrum.

I believe some Spectrumites could be good mentors, too. Many have had to experience living out in the "wider world," and have learned, at least to some extent, how to relate with "neurotypicals."

I found a business mentor 12 odd years ago. We started the partnership based on his ability to connect with people and my ability to deliver work well. We had completely complimentary skill sets in this and made a great team together. During this I learnt so many skills and different perspectives from him being my opposite.
Maybe try to identify your strongest points and use them to help some one with different ones, through this forming a great team to deliver and also learn new things.
