Anxiety about him going away
Hi everyone my husband
has posted before on my behalf, but we haven't posted in a long time. My husband wants to start working on leaving and coming back because I get very anxious whenever he leaves to go anywhere. I think it's a good idea but I'm just not sure, we are both for autism acceptance not cure and I want to make that very clear. I don't need to be cured I just need a little extra accommodations and to do things differently. But that's okay AS has brought a lot of good things to my life like an incredible imagination and a kindness and innocence that I wouldn't have without it. It also makes me who I am and has taught my husband a lot and frankly I love it. I don't love the meltdowns and sensory issues but I kind of do,because finding solutions is kind of fun...
Anyways there I go again
. But I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to working on getting used to him leaving and coming back and something that might work better to cling to instead of clinging to him. Also does anyone have any suggestions for strategies o learn grey area? I have no grey area apparently... Ooh! I'm off! Hubby is getting me ice cream.
woohoo!
Hi, thank you for replying. I believe it is the anxiety that often comes with Asperger's, around being left and your husband/wife or girlfriend/boyfriend not returning. I know intellectually that he will return but it is very difficult for me to understand intrinsically and emotionally that he will return. our lack of routine has been very hard on me and it has not yet become embedded the he will come back, so for me when he leaves my logic can become faulty. Then there is the anxiety that logically since he is gone, if something were to happen (accident, meltdown, shutdown, etc) that he would not in fact be there to help me. and to remind me to use my sensory calming toys and tools when needed. it is very diificult. he has not in fact gone as of yet but we are still unsure whats going to happen and the lack of predictability has been very difficult for me.
