Are Our Guys Really looking abroad? Have they had enough of us women? Read on to judge for yourself.

Quote from article

Society magazine Tatler has come under fire for an article republished in response to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement, which would some feel would look more at home in a sexist 1950’s dating guide than a 21st century glossy mag.
The article, which is meant to explain why Britain’s eligible bachelors choose American women over women from their own country, makes a number of preposterous claims.

It's hard to tell where Tatler's knowing tone ends and its tone-deafness begins, as it casually states that the "hapless British male" is generally thrilled to meet women with "sparkling teeth and considerably more charm than the Sloanes he was used to dating".
It also claims that "average English girl rarely brushes her hair and never cleans her ears", and cites it as a key reason why "Britain's bachelors are falling for spruce All-American charms."
An Old Etonian is quoted as saying that "for a lot of British chaps, it is easier to go out with a foreigner than to find a girl from home with the right background".

Absolutely disgusting @TatlerUK. This is such poor journalism, I can't even express how frustrated it makes me.

I don't see what the big deal is. They can be with American women & British women can be with American men.

No one minds them getting married. But an artical saying that British men marry American women because British women don't brush their hair or clean their ears is a bit off. It's insulting to Megan too, there basically saying Prince Harry is marrying her because she's got clean ears. It's rubbish but then it's the Tatler.

Women in the UK brush their hair, I know because I often forget to brush mine, and other women make comment on it, which they wouldn't do if everyone did it. I haven't checked to see if they clean their ears out though, so who knows. :D

WTH? You don't know what the big deal is? Lets see. Citizenship, craftsmanship , social etiquette, cultural barriers but to name a few, I can see why the land on the other side, always seems to shine more brightly than ours.

Can you? I can't. :D

Look he's not marrying her because she's American, or despite her being American, he's doing it because she's the person he's fallen in love with.

Social etiquette? I'm sure she knows which knife and fork to use as well as I know how to brush my hair. Oh! poor example :(

Craftsmanship? I'm not sure where you're going with this one. I've never known an engagement fail due to incompatible craftsmanship, but then I've never been engaged. Maybe she should be tested to be on the safe side, the Duke of Edinburgh could do it, he's pretty crafty. :D

Historical fact: I read a historical paper long ago, how in World War I and II, a group of British feminists called the White Feather Order were assigned to shame non-enlisted British men by pinning white feathers on them (a sign of chicken), in the same paper it says, while many British men were dying in mass behind the enemy lines, many of British women were having fun with American soldiers (aka dancing and sex) who were stationed in Britain, they were crazy about the american soldiers because of their "Hollywood aura" and because they're handsome according to old testimonies.

The white feather thing was not associated with the women's rights movement, it happened across all views and classes, but yes it certainly happened, there was enormous pressure on men to enlist.

A lot of Commonwealth soldiers died fighting, and some British women went with American soldiers while they were stationed here but relationships happen between individuals (usually) rarely with a 'great my husband dying, I'll shag a Yank' attitude.

''Hollywood aura''? a bit maybe, now we think of you all as Homer Simpson :D

OK, totally off topic but not by design. I have Southron relatives, and occasionally unreliable eyesight. So I've been wondering what on earth "tater outrage" could be.

I stand corrected. Carry on, all.

You’re wrong, it was a group of British feminists - not any women of any class. Check it out.

I think Harry is very lucky to find someone he can love who grew up in the intense spotlight of today's media. And can handle that.

Off topic, but since people are talking about it:

Quote:
In August 1914, at the start of the First World War, Admiral Charles Fitzgerald founded the Order of the White Feather with support from the prominent author Mrs Humphrey Ward. The organization aimed to shame men into enlisting in the British army by persuading women to present them with a white feather if they were not wearing a uniform.

This was joined by some prominent feminists and suffragettes of the time, such as Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel. They, in addition to handing out the feathers, also lobbied to institute an involuntary universal draft, which included those who lacked votes due to being too young or not owning property.

In other words feminists really were in it, but unless Charles used to be a woman's name it was a man who started the whole thing.
