That's the second or third incident of its kind I can recall of, knowing later that some girl thought I may be 'gay'.

My girlfriend told me....

















So it seems something in my appearance or my voice gives that impression.

Her tips for appearing less 'soft' and less prone to be assumed gay are tad shocking too, but nothing is surprising me anymore, people are so judgmental.

I wonder if there are other straight guys here who give this wrong impression too?


PS: This thread by no means implies that I have a problem with gays.

Soft-spoken, gentle manners, cheerful disposition, lack of "flirtiness" ... for many (not all) women, all of this means that a man is either gay or a Nice Guy™ (e.g., another way of saying 'gay').

My father asked me if I was gay when I was 19. He was flabbergasted that I didn’t have a girlfriend, and knew nothing of my Aspergian-type struggles.

The Nice Guy™ is a term that doesn't exist in the meat-place, Fnord.

These weren’t exactly intellectual-type people who participated in the above discussion....

I like the ones we have here on WP much better—even with the over-reliance on “social” research.

I should have said that the discussion wasn’t intellectual, not the people. For all I knew, all the participants were nuclear physicists.

The discussion was more indicative of something I hear on my job, though.

I have asked two exes I dated if I give this kind of impression, they were like "NOT at all!".

But I was very flirty with these ones when I first met them. Hmmmm, so maybe Fnord is on something after all.

People used to think I was gay. There have been two lesbians in my family and I am not one of them. I just choose comfort over fashion and people seem to think women who don't prescribe to certain aesthetics are lesbians. Ironically the actual lesbian in my family has a penchant for fashion.

I knew a few girls like Chronos. I had crushes on all of them. One had the exact same voice as Daria.

Being called "gay" by a women usually means a woman is interested in you romantically, but you aren't showing any interest in them back (which most guys do). This isn't always a bad thing!

More than a few guys & girls thought I was gay. I freaked some of those girls out by making a move on them.
