I can't figure him out...

He likes me so much he insisted I spend the three week quarantine in Michigan with him and my uncle...

And I've even said I like him, but he never says anything in response though...

On Facebook on one of those games, he told everyone else "I love you" but I got told "Nice personality"

So umm.... What??? Now I'm stuck here awkward and all... Unless I need to be brave enough to ask...

According to the Urban Dictionary, "nice personality" is a code-phrase men use to describe women whom they believe have little physical appeal, but the men don't want to say what they really think so as not to hurt the women's feelings.

Pete: "I'm gonna hook you up with my girlfriend's best friend."
Mike: "What does she look like?"
Pete: "Umm... she has a nice personality!"
Mike: "You mean she's not very good-looking, right?"
Pete: "Umm... yeah, but my girlfriend tells me that she pays her own way and has the morals of an alley cat..."

While your friend may "like" you for your "great personality", he may not "like" you for much else.

It’s equivalent to the famous phrase: “I like you as a friend”.

Give it time. You need time and so does he to get to know each other.

We talked... There are personal reasons why he can't be public with anything, kinda personal and hard to explain...

That's what's called a "soft" no. It's when you blame something else (it's not the right time; I'm not ready; etc.) for the reason they aren't dating you rather than just saying they're not interested because they don't want to hurt your feelings.

sounds like he's trying to wangle something else to me, more of a "sometimes".

He doesn't want a girlfriend with mental illness... (I have bipolar) because of something that happened to a past girlfriend. He sees me as friend material.

My dad had that; but he self-medicated with alcohol, which made it much worse.  I hope that he will eventually see you as a person and not as an illness.  Good luck with that.

I think many women with nice personalities and not conventionally good-looking are cute, nevertheless.

I’ve had more than a few crushes on women who are not conventionally attractive, yet have other attributes.

Ummm... When my uncle went to the store he admitted the biggest problems were he thought my uncle would get mad at him if he actively dated his niece... And also mental health wouldn't like it (he's in the mental health system too).

Hmmm.... my uncle told me he didn't mind... The mental health issue though... When I got with my husband mental health tried to interfere so I kinda understand...

I wish you could at least volunteer at a zoo. Get out of those messes you get into. Be amongst people who understand you.
