I had bad acne from ages 18 - 23 (acne under control after www.acne.org regimen).

I always thought acne was a big reason why I was unsuccessful with relationships.

Now at age 25 I have accepted my A.S. and now understand why I have had some difficulties in social interactions.

Before knowing about A.S. I continued to improve areas of my life to get more people to accept me (stopping acne, fitness, school, and business).

Did anyone else think acne was the problem before knowing about A.S. ?

I thought I was getting rejected mainly due to my shyness/insecurity and appearance from acne.

It was probably a combination of my insecurity from acne and my lack of understanding/expressing non-verbal communication.

Acne plays such a small part in the overall picture. You can still have an attractive personality and know how to talk to woman just the right way and get lots of girls in high school. I saw it happen in my very high school.

The ability to attract girls is a very complex social function. Some guys may be physically extremely attractive to a girl, but for most guys... average guys its all about the communication.

Acne is a ncie scapegoat for a little while... but I never really blamed my inabilites on it. Most everyone gets some acne as a teenager. Even though I had a ton of it, I knew there was something more to the rejections. All though I didn't try too hard to attract a girlfriend, I was just going along with my life, and If I happen to find someone who likes me for me then great... but it was never my focus.

My acne was never too bad. I actually had it worse on my back than on my face.

I saw a few NT's coming into junior high school who with in the course of a year have their child hood faces destroyed and scarred by severe acne.

Hi, nitraine! Dropping in to say, "you're a very nice looking guy!" :D

I have OCD not AS. I know someone with AS if only he could accept it like you did! Good job!

I had lots of acne as a teen. My dermotologist said it was due to stress. He use to get mad when I didn't use his meds. as prescribed. :P

Can you clarify that for me FuzzyChickens? I don't catch your meaning, as both the person you quoted and the original poster are Aspies.

Don't worry, you're not the first person to take one of my jokes seriously, and you won't be the last.

No. I was a social outcast ever since I could remember, and by choice (at first).

The one connection I do see between aspiness and acne is that because I'm obsessive, I picked the heck out of my face, squeezed it to death, couldn't leave healing sores alone, ect etc, which most likely made it worse than it would have been.

You're doing a pretty bad job at trying to be an NT, fuzzy Chickens. Stop trying to convince yourself.

I'm probably more NT than you, it's easy enough to see through.

I thought my problems were due to being ugly, after all, at each school that's what I got teased for. I went to seven different schools. So after all that, I thought, "So, THAT's my problem."
I thought that was why no one wanted to be my friend.
Now I know different.

No. Definitely not. I always figured it was my weight- and I was probably right, up till the weight watchers stuff started to work.
