Da*n seasonal depression thingy side effect I don't like!! ! I have a crush!! ! Ahh!! !

Here's the problme. I like someone, and I can be a bit obsesive. The problem is, I like her and I don't like her. Something about her personality just makes her seem attractive and she's a good looking person, but I don't want to like her!! ! :( :( :( I don't like her, but I do! I'm extremely lonely, and might actually have a chance, but I don't really like her. She's attractive, but not! I'm just so confused about myself right now. Emotional f-ing overload!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

I realize I'm being really vague, I'll try to elaborate tommorrow if my mind is a less bit BLAH!

Why don't you want to like her?

I can relate to a point; I, being the hardcore cynic that I am, was vehemently opposed to any kind of romantic relationship on pure principle. I am now in one and glad to be so, but my initial reaction was similar but to a different slant and reason: "Oh, crap, I like this guy." ((Crap being used here in place of profanity which would be censored.))

Could you clarify your problem, though?

Sounds to me like you are definitely having a crush on this girl. Symptoms include: fantasizing about her daily, loss of appetite, your heart is beating abnormaly, etc.

There are two choices you could make depending on the circumstances. If she is currently single, why don't you just tell her how you feel? You never know, she might be flattered. But if you hate this crush because she has already got a bloke, then you must either try and forget about her or be upfront about it.

But I wouldn't feel so guilty about it because it's perfectly normal. :)

i frequently have crushes on inappropriate people. the worst occasion was when i convinced myself that i fancied a married man (even though he was really unattractive). i was seeing a therapist at the time and she said the reason why i thought i fancied him was because i didn't really want a relationship so fantasising about someone who was unavailable made my life more interesting. she was probably right because when he eventually showed interest in me i didn't want him anymore.

I guess I'll elaborate some now.

Their's something about her personality that just makes her seems so nice and attractive. She also happens to be a fairly decent looking person. But, a relationship would never work. We're just too different. She's...argh! She's not taken, she's annoying. Not really to me, but to a lot of other people. That, and she's an atlete. I'm not sexist, I just don't want to feel obligated to got to a sports event because I'm dating a player. I really can't see our personalities meshing either, I just can't see it working; especially since I don't like her...but I do! I guess it's more of an infatuation. Practically every remotely attractive women seems much more inviting when I'm in my winter depression thingy. But their's always one that I seem to focus a lot more on. A crush. I still can't figure out why she's so attractive. I like her, but I don't.

I hope I was slightly better at explaining it this time.

The cure:

1.go into your room

2.shut the door and window/curtains

3.get naked

4.take a nap

5.masturbate to a girl that looks nothing like her for at least 5 hours (non-consecutively!)

6.drink some grape kool-aid

...and the curse will be lifted *hushed whisperings* oh a crush...I can't help you with that

Very important question: Does she like you? If she does, why not date her? You seem to enjoy her company, and she enjoys yours. You'll get the benefit of having a relationship. At this point in your life, you need to experience a relationship; you can worry about the quality of it later. If she doesn't like you, oh well, at least you know.

I used to get crushed but I started to really see it as a weakness, something kinda dangerous in terms of my emotions being in someone elses hands who had no idea she should care, and I eventually beat it out of myself.

I sort of know what you mean. So what don't you like about her.

Sometimes you have to work around what you don't like in a person, instead of calling the whole thing off.

Changing someone is out of the question, but that doesn't mean you can't learn to live with their faults, so long as they aren't too bad.

For instance, there was one girl in high school that I probably would have gone out with despite all her faults except one. The one fault I couldn't work around was her tendancy to try to draw my attention with perfume, I'm sure those of you with scent sensitivity understand that. I actually found that girl sort of attractive, even though she was immature and sometimes annoying.

In retrospect I probably should have just talked to her about it, but I was a nervouse wreck at the time, and retrospect is 20/20 after all.

Tried something similar with my last few crushes, alomst makes it worst! 8O Maybe it was because I don't like kool-aid? But I do like kool-aid!

Hmmmmmm. I have felt a great disturbance in the force.

I find myself trying not to be sucked into something that could completely envelope me but alas, it's pointless to resist. Just go with the flow and try not to hide anything as much as possible. In my case, the situation seems as if it backfired at the love level, a good friendship would still remain. At the same time, I have a close friend who was caught in the friend-cycle with women for a long time. In my bleak past, I haven't been able to get close to any women, whether it be for friendship or otherwise. Here's my order of the day, often seen to be the finest words I ever came up with.

Adjust your expectations and freeze them to zero. Don't have overly positive dreams and delusions. Try also not to have negative and bleak outlooks. Don't make up possible scenerios in your mind of what "might" happen. Play it straight and expect nothing. If you come to adopt this policy as I did, you will realize that life will surprise you more.

RPM 2004, we can certainly use more psychologist and psychiatrists here with unique perspectives like that.
