Truly Genuine
Hey all,
I have a question for you. It is an AS question but anyone is welcome to give me their 0.02 cents.
My room mate brought a girl back one day. This girl was different. The way she was different was she openly portrays dishonesty as if it were truths. When she talks it reeks of ingenuity.
She will come over and try to get people affection by saying things like "Oh, that's so cool" or "Oh Zane, you're such a strong guy" ...
I guess what I am saying is this: I have always had something about me I did not understand. I can read people very well. Not read people like Doctor Strange(comic book psychic) but I could read their energies. Energy is the best explanation I have ever been able to come up with.
Because it isn't like I am reading them, but I'm not. Instantly upon meeting people and hearing their words I have a very good idea of what kind of person they are.
But when the girl my roommate brought over talks to me I become irritated. And I become irritated because when she talks she does not mean ANY of it.
Usually when girls give me compliments, they are remotely genuine. Even the girl who wants to make me feel better after rejecting my request has care in her voice. But when this girl says anything to me, like "Oh, Zane you're so slick. I bet you get lots of girls" it doesn't even have an ounce of emotion. It is like she wants to compliment but really doesn't give a s**t about you so that is what comes across.
So my question is this: Is this an AS trait? The ability to read people. The ability to know if someone is being truly genuine?
And my other question is related to another topic in this forum. AS people have intense gazes. Someone mentioned that eye contact was different to AS people. Does anyone know about this? Why is it different? And how is it different?
Thanks for any insight into the matter,
-Zane

You're not reading their energy. The human brain is always aware of when it is not functioning to its correct parameters, and tries to restore the balance however it can.
You are presumably an aspie? You brain can't inherently read emotions, so it compensates how it can, you unconsciously study facial expressions, voice intonation and inflection to try and determine what the person is communicating.
The result is, you are able to break down verbal speech and decipher the hidden meanings, esentially "reading between the lines".
It is common amongst high functioning aspies, I happen to do this as well. The result is, it's very difficult for someone to lie to you. You may at some times feel you are actually reading the person's thoughts when they talk, most effectively when they are talking to someone else, your brain is less distracted then.

Well, I do have AS.
When I was very young I was diagnosed with SID.
Around 95 I was re diagnosed with AS.
That makes a lot of sense.
I am not sure about the unconscious study of facial expressions but I do know I have studied and observed body language and facial expressions most my life. It was a part of my desire to be normal. Which now has turned into my desire to be accepted. And then become a desire to find out who I really am.
It makes sense though. I have never thought I was psychic.
But I do find myself knowing what people are going to say before they say it. That is because I have picked up on common trends or speech in most my friends and family.

i am rather a-typically aspic in that i am always looking around me and at people - i just know most of them don't really like to be see in the eyes for longer than the passing glance (as long as the gaze comes from a third party)
i am pretty good at reading social situations, although no doubt i would perform less adequately when i am included in the social plot
however, when from the outside looking in, i get close to seeing everything
in serious one-to-one contact, it is often found that i can phrase things they want to say better than they could have - occasionnally that got me an
editing assignment as well
it can come across a bit blunt if you don't know me and don't think about
how i just rephrased something
anyway, i'll mix it up a bit & vote 'very well'

I can not read body language at all. I have no idea what some one intends until i observe them a bit.
I never know what or how a person is feeling. My defence is that i assume everyone is lying instill proven otherwise. That was developed after a long time of being made a Fool of.
I'm too literal with what is being said to read between the lines.
AS Is the inability to read people At least that's what I've read and experienced.
People see me as cold and cruel at times because of this.
I do not believe in Psychic anything. It's all BS to me.

Yeah that's what always got me. When I was younger I was told that I did not seem to have any of the traits of an Aspie. Yet I was diagnosed with AS. I have always been able to communicate with people I respected. That seems like a behavioral disorder to me? Not caring to talk to those I do not care for...
Hmm, thus is life?

I don't read people well by faces and what they say, but I often get an initial psychic sense (I think thats what it is) of what people are like at their core. The trouble is when they start talking to me and lying or portraying themselves differently to that psychic impression, I am then confused and cannot match up the details. It becomes an illogical problem. I don't have words to describe people unless others have spoken about them as say 'kind' or 'friendly'. I experience a fair amount of confusion over what people are about because of this.

QFT. Although unlike Zane, I don't have the ability with new people unless I am positive they are not going to be interacting with me. If people are interacting with me, it takes a while for me to learn their individual mannerisms, quirks, body language, ect. Then I understand them as well as anyone. They can never fool me.
But before I reach that point, all of those signals merge into this frightening white noise that bring up my anxiety level and sends me into autistic mode.

I know i have an unusual ability...
It only works with people with cerebral palsy, and ONLY works with people with cerebral palsy who cannot speak!! !
there are two ways i can communicate with these people...
either A. or B. A. is the most effective
A. direct touch and contact
I have noticed with my old girlfriend that whenever i would hug her or hold her or touch her i could hear what she was trying to say, although she could not speak any understandable words, it was also noted that while she could not produce words her voice was very relaxing to me. we used to communicate with touch until her parents said they no longer wanted me to see or contact her anymore...
B. distance neuro-optic connection interface
This is one i noticed with my newest best friend / soul mate Chris who lives in the UK... when we are on skype i noticed that sometimes i would lock into his eyes and literally say what he is about to say before he focuses on his eye controlled device... this only happens once every few days, i believe because of how much distance is between us and how hard it is to make a neuro-optic connection through a freaking camera that is grainy picture sometimes!

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Yeah, I have this ability too. I can tell what kind of person someone is just by the "vibe" they give off. Amazingly, I've been right about 90% of the time. For instance, I would meet someone, and think: "he seems like a good guy; doesn't seem obnoxious at all" or "she seems friendly; something about her sits really well with me". Ditto for negative perceptions: "he seems OK now, but he looks like someone who likes to get violent" or "she's talking to me, but she just has this really stuck-up look on her face". Even after I've some time with the person (like an hour or so), the vibe I picked up originally really tends to stick. This has worked both for me and against me.
People's actions are usually sufficient to change my original impression. One time, I was at a party, and my friend introduced me to this girl. For some reason, I felt uncomfortable with her, even though she was nice to me. Maybe it's because she looked good, so it had an intimidating effect on me. I didn't let my guard down until she offered to bring me a beer when getting one for herself. I guess in this case, the thoughtfulness on her part made me warm up to her. Either way, we ended up having a good conversation about trains; she told me she was studying urban planning, and I'm into railroads.

I do the same thing. I can get a very good sense of people's personalities, even after just a little bit of contact with them. And yet I'm terrible at reading body language. It makes a strange combination.

I often can "feel" the emotions that people are putting out, again through how they are (e.g. facial expressions, tone of voice etc). Aggression is one that I pick up very easily and rapidly, and I take a big disliking to (largely because of past experiences in my childhood were not so pleasant). I would even say that is my weak point, particularly if it is coming from people I know reasonably well, and it just causes me to feel terribly weak inside. However, I'm doing what I can to improve on this weakness since I despise feeling weak even if I do not appear to be to others.
The only thing I detect like this is if the subject did not make any significant effort of thought before opening its mouth.
In other words, I detect verbal noise. Then again, I could be imagining things. ![]()

That's a very useful ability, Zane!
As for me, I can't read people at all. I'm often the last person to find out about someone's intentions. And when people compliment me, I usually assume the compliments aren't genuine (probably because I don't really understand why people compliment each other
).
