Personally, I don't think it's love. I think it's lust, insecurity, social status, etc...... :chin:

There are a number of reasons why women fall for men who are no good for them. But on the specific subject of 'respect' I would say: Because they don't respect themselves and they really have no idea what respect is and how it feels. Likely, no one has ever repsected them or treated them like they are worth something. They would not know it if they found someone who respected them. And likely would not be able to accept it.

A lot of times it's a lack of self confidence. If they don't feel they're worth anything, they'll take any attention that's given to them. Other times, the person you're involved with changes over time. Once they respected you, but over the years something changed and they don't treat you with the same level of respect as they did in the beginning. By that time you're in so deep it's hard to know what to do.

What I'd like to know, is why do women reject guys who do respect them?

I can't figure it out but my guess is for some women, having a man is all that matters and they sometimes feel they aren't good enough for anyone else so they stay with the man who doesn't respect them anyways. Yet and the same time, the nice guys never seem to be able to get any women at all, something is wrong with this picture. God, women, I'll never figure them out.

Perhaps they are simply not attracted to you? @cyberman

Anyway regards the question, Maybe these guys offer them things outside of respect that appeal to the girls more. :)

It is not about looks with me. I am not bad looking.

The point of my question is: "What is more important than feeling good about oneself?"

It has to do with a concept called "falling upwards" -- see the Wikipedia entry below:
Wiki entry on Falling Upwards

Essentially, we go for someone we deem to be slightly better quality than ourselves. So if the guy isn't respecting them, clearly he's better quality, right? ;)

Guys also do this -- I'm sure we've all passed on the homely or fat girl (or just unattractive to us) who was nice and valued us for who we are, while we pined for the bitchy pretty girl who wouldnt' give us the time of day. It's just nature at work.

but the thing about men, we choose pretty girls whether they respect us or not. so if the is a pretty girl who accepts us for who we are then we will choose her. But that rarely ever happens. with women the guy can be ugly or attractive. if the girl is into guys who dont respect her, then shell go with the ugly guy who disrespects her over the brad pitt/denzel washington handsome guy who treats her like a princess

Not true... I've turned down a few women in high school based on personality even if they were good-looking... also the fact that they were only trying to get close to me to use me (in keeping with their personality) helped...

Like what? I can't think of anything "more" unless I'm missing something here.

I think that it has to do with self respect. If a person doesn't respect themselves then they usually can't handle/understand respectful behaviour and distrust it, my guess. A combo of trust issues and self respect issues mayhap.
