By a man's attentions. So far I have actually had men here ask to date me through PMs, and men from other sites. But I don't often reply, as mostly I am like "Woah!" 8O as I am not used to having guys interested in me.
Since I'm not used to it, I procrastinate in answering since I have no clue how to procede.

I would post a picture of myself, but I have no idea how to do it here. Some places let you browse your options and then link, but its differant here.

Does anybody else ever get intimidated easily by the opposite gender?

Yeah, if you say you're a single woman looking for a man, expect a lot of replies... that's what happens here, or anywhere where a lot of lonely men tend to gather...

I wouldn't recommend it... that's just going to get more lonely men sending you creepy PM's... That said, if you want to do that: if you have the image hosted elsewhere, get the link to that image (right click on the image and select "copy link location"). Then, when making a post, click on the little icon above the text area with the mountains and the sun (should be to the left of the Youtube icon), and paste the link into that. The correctly formatted text will appear in the text box (it will have "img" tags around the link to the picture)

A guy I knew a bit and actually knew irl as well as on the internet asked me out on irc once. I did kinda like him a little bit at the time but the whole thing shocked me so much I completely failed to reply and he changed the subject of conversation. I still have no idea whether he was joking.

Whenever a guy asks me out irl, I often wonder if he's just doing it to be mean (that is, asking me only to snicker about me with his buddies) as I have had them do so long ago, at school.

I don't mind getting PMs, but I do wonder sometimes about the safety issues involved in Internet dating...
If I could see some of these folks face-to-face and be able to assess their character, it would be a little easier, I think. But to do that involves giving out some personal information, which I am leery about doing...

There are some measures you can take -- have the first "date" in a very public place, like a coffee shop, where you both meet. You can even park down the street or take a bus if you are worried about the guy scoping out your vehicle. Also let someone else know you will be gone, where you will be, and how you can be reached.

Im sorry if I creeped you out. That was not my intention. It kinda hurt my feelings though.

I disagree with the opinion to not post your pic, unless you are scared of the possibilty of someone stalking you. There isn't a guy out there who doesn't want to know what the girl he is taliking to, looks like. Many will tell you that it doesn't matter, but they are lying, flat out. Everyone has preferences. I suggest that you post your pic, it will add one more aspect of yourself, and make the likelihood of finding a match even better.(and I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see it) :)

I also think you can learn alot about someone through PM's/Email. If you have any sort of ability to sense what a person is like, you will get to know that person eventually. Over time you will be able to determine what is BS and what is not. Of course, face to face is the best option, but I think it would be a lot easier if you knew the person's thoughts, feelings, etc.... first.

Alot of intimidation can be eliminated by having knowledge of a situation and all of it's components. Gain info(all forms) whenever you can, if it is relevant to you. :)

Yeh I get quite suspicious about that... if anyone ever tellsme they think someone is interested I never believe them either - it's the last thing I think of, so when someone does ask me out it comes as such a shock.

Perhaps if people ask to date through pms you could maybe try that or even set up a specific msn thing for it or something if you're interested... that way you might be able to get an idea how well your personalities click or something... and maybe try it on the grounds of friends to start with so you can just see how things go and stuff.

Metalwolf,

I'm not trying to be a jackass, but a lot of guys on here are lonely hearts, and some of them are so alone and desperate for love and affection that they are willing to do this whole "online dating" thing because it is the closest they feel they can come to having an actual relationship. I know, a long time ago, I did online dating, until I later realized how silly and stupid the notion was and how I wasn't having my romantic needs fulfilled.

Now, you say you have no pictures on this site. I think that's good. Why? Because the only thing all of these guys are going by when they ask you out is strictly your personality, not what you look like. Guys can be very particular about physical appearances, however, I don't know what you look like, but then again, I'm not here to see what people look like, just to chat with them.

If I were you, I wouldn't do this online dating thing, it doesn't fulfill any the needs you have that only an actual relationship can fill. Take it from someone who was silly enough to do it in the first place.

Yeah, I guess maybe you are right. I want a boyfriend, but maybe I have to try a differant way. I tried online dating too, and it didn't help my lonliness much, as I wanted to have the boyfriend with me, not just talking to me.

No, you didn't creep me out, I just didn't know I had any new PMs. I only come here for an hour or two, and sometimes I forget to check my messages.

Thing is, in everyone else's minds, guys like us will always be perceived as "weirdos" by default, because it's so much easier for people to assume that we are...

Same here Wolf id rather make sure confertable with not only talking with me but being able to meet IRL but trust me im just as awkward with the opposite sex as you are so don't worry too much about it because you never know that guy with the same issues might be just right for you.
