Why do people go to the movies in groups?

A few months ago I went to see Ironman2 by myself for the first showing. Waiting in line by myself wasn't that fun. When I finally got into the theatre I got sandwiched in between strangers. Then the next day a good friend I had not seen in a long time showed up out of the blue. We decided to go see the movie again. The second time was better. Some things are better experienced with friends.
