I'm married with a child, and have only a few close friends.

I have a boyfriend. His friends have become my acquaintances. I haven't had a RL friend since 1989 or 90.

Blimey only two pages in and It reads like everyones slit their wrists

Even though ive been away from my home town for 5 years i still have quite a number of friends here. Being the autistic spazz that I am though I only really meet up with people every couple of weeks or so. Most of them have known me for 10+ years so they kinda just accept my oddities and respect that I have hermit like tendencies.

I guess I could have a more active social life if i wanted too but to be fair im just getting used to sharing a house again after having my own place for 5 years and thats taking some adjusting too.

So I like the pace of things at the moment.

I've a few friends and an almost completely satisfying relationship. Hmm, never thought I'd hear myself saying (or see myself typing) either of those.

plainly, the poll is geared only towards socially successful higher-functioning people. otherwise it would've had a hermit choice as well.

Hey, you're right.

What I don't get- why does dating make you higher in status? That's too much of an on-going thing. Easy-come, easy-go.

the people who are able to arrange and/or partake of dates for themselves [at least those who are of reproductive age] demonstrate higher social functioning, for whatever that is worth, and aside from any other concerns. they are considered more desirable as dates and mates. such desirability is a status-sign in our culture, at least. in a darwinian sense, they are at a higher socially functional level than those who cannot partake in any mating behaviors, IOW the daters have well-adapted to the social whirl of the society in which they live, which allows them to attract mates [in the first place] pair-bond and [possibly] reproduce. but, for better or worse, i am not one of those select folk.
