This.

While we are at primates: I recently read that female orangutans sometimes get a male orangutang who they are not interested in sexually to accompany them to fend of horny males. Maybe we are just the missing link.

After reading this, I think I am more glad than ever that my parents got divorced when I was a baby, and I did not have to put up with my father 24/7, as he is extremely macho. My older brother, on the other hand, is more "his father's boy" (they even share the same first name. Adorable, ain't it?), has spent more time with him, and is clearly more macho, which shows in his choice of partner: his longtime girlfriend is both more attractive than him (just a little bit from my perspective, if you can compare a guy and a girl at all) and quite alot less intellectual (she is outright plain stupid), less interesting and less charismatic overall. I could never EVER imagine him being with someone of the same intellectual level. Over the years, I have witnessed him always picking girls that where both dumb and dull, as not to overshine him in any way. It is just another of his belongings, something he can bring to a reunion to show off like a fancy car or a yacht or something.
I guess my tendency towards hanging out with girls is because I got bullied when I got to high school then. As most bullies, mine tried to embody stereotype "cool teenagers" as hard as they could (late 90's style: hiphop slang and all), which of course included reducing girls and women to sexual objects.
