Do you have problems figuring out how you come across?

I tend to assume that I don't come across very well.

But if I dwell on it, that only makes things worse, so now I try not to worry. I just do the best I can, which is better than lying or not saying anything.

In some jobs, straight-talking is considered an advantage! Everyone seems to be quite blunt in my office so it's not too bad.

It is darn near impossible for me to accurately and consistently understand how I present myself to people. I used to use humor because I thought I was pretty funny, but usually I'm not. I talk to my dog a lot and I say some extremely funny things, and she doesn't think I'm a dufus. She likes it when I talk to her. It doesn't matter to her how I act. It does matter to her that I'm consistent, of which I am extremely consistent.

I wasn't aware of how I came across until I watched a video of myself. Then I realized how monotoned my voice is and how awkward my facial expressions are. I've been a bit self-conscious about it ever since, because I suddenly see how dull other people must think I am.

I always think I'm saying things in the nicest way possible, but everyone tells me the tone of my voice makes me sound cranky all the time. So I tend to just be quiet or work on concentrating on every word I say and try to make the pitch and tone sweeter, which just makes me sound fake. Ugh... I can't win so why even talk to people at all?

No wonder I like the Internet so much. The mood of the reader is put on my words. If they really like me, they will be happy when they read it. If they don't, they all pretty much think I'm a cranky person anyway so it really doesn't matter.

I'm quite confused about the way I come across, a walkover, dizzy, personable, aloof I think I am constructed by contradictions.

It sounds simple but I've just realised that the way you come across affects how people treat you, if you have self-deprecating humour then its probable that the people around you will start teasing you too, two way communciation is so hard!
