Not only you can google their name, you can also google their email address. I googled mine and it only showed a few results and it said my name was Lisa and the Spokeo website showed up. Now why would Lisa and my maiden name appear and say it has my email address or how else did the website pop up with a different name?

It's always interesting to find what information is about you online and see how much of it is true or not and who has the same name as you or who has used your email address perhaps.

What do you mean? Because it feels wrong, or because you discover something you don't like?

I googled mine after reading this. None of the hits I got had anything to do with me.

Because it feels very wrong and it makes me feel pathetic that I can't talk to them because of unreciprocation, and because the only way I can get a glimpse of them is through the internet.

Ah what the heck, I'm pretty sure there are a hell lot more people googling us on daily basis than us googling people (and I'm not talking about people working for multinationals on this one).

Why would they do that?

Running a google or facebook search on a name is a very common. Many employers do it to vet prospective employees. Many individuals do it when they have crushes. Some people do an ego search to see what comes up about themselves. The practice itself isn't so problematic, but it can be hard to discern if the information is at all relevant or accurate, so don't take anything you find on the internet too seriously.

I don't normally do it. Then again some people make finding themselves so easy. But I will admit I myself am completely untraceable. I have the same name as a politician and my name is so common that even if I type in my middle name, I'm never found. I also don't use any social networking so there's no pictures of me anywhere. The only way I could be found is if a company pays to do a background check on me.

I think the answer is that if they put their name on something online, they would want people who know them to know about it.

I have a unique online and offline identity. Most of the content I find in web searches for myself is about me.
I don't see a reason to keep it a secret. I have no reputation to destroy. No person worth knowing would openly hate (me).

The internet is a friend who tells your deepest secrets to the world.
In that case, don't tell the internet any secrets.
The internet isn't an "inside" it is an "outside" space. Like looking through a window.
