Not always knowing what to say to people

do not know how to talk to chinese people. when i was a child, i assumed that chinese people merely made vocal sounds that essentially were nonsense.

once i tried to talk to a chinese person by making random vocalisations that sounded chinese to me, and i thought they would respond with their own set of sounds, but it did not work. i tried every chinese sounding vocalisation i could think of, but to no avail.
