I don't know. I have a pretty strong memory. I still haven't shaken guilty feelings from when I was three.

See if your friends from the other lunch have friends in your lunch that they can steer you to. It is ok to ask. Just tell the other lunch guys that lunch sucks without them and do they know anyone cool or interesting to hang out with, and can they please introduce you so you don’t have to sit with a bunch of non intellectual duds.

I can try. I'll probably see one after school today.

I dont think the hand hitting was because he was being mean, thats one way guys interact and make friends, at that age thats just a way of enshuring the other guy is cool with ya, dont take it personally. I think it means he wants to be compfortable enough to do that and theirfore be friends with ya. I would continue to chill with him if you have noone else to sit with.

It was just uncomfortable, though. I knew he was kidding, but my hand was already hurting at the time, and this just made it worse. Overall, I got this sort of "not on the first date" feeling.

Well, I'm going to have to do something about this today. I'll get back to you.

When I was in high school, I moved to a new school where I didn't know anyone. I sat with some people from one of my classes for a couple of days but it was uncomfortable. I ended up spending my lunch periods hiding in classrooms, spending inordinately long times in the bathrooms (our lunches were only 20 minutes anyway), or milling around outside. Nowadays I would never do something like that, but I remember how awful high school was. I wouldn't look twice at someone sitting alone now, but back then if you sat alone you were a TOTAL LOSER, according to the high school crew.

This is of course not true, it's just high school kids being stupid. High school is hell for kids who are sensitive and shy. Do whatever makes you most comfortable - sitting alone (or sit near some people and start talking to them), in the library, or in a classroom. As you get older and out of the public school system, situations like this won't bother you anymore.

DejaQ I suggest you maybe take up boxing. I'm seriouse. Good exersize, and a great way to releave stress. Plus, it's a good form of self defense.

Anyway, anytime you feel threatend, you have a right to defend yourself. I don't care if the princibal feels otherwise. They do jack to help anyways, and just let these kind of punks get away with it.

Soon as you fire a ram-rod jab at one these unspecting losers and break his nose, nobody will mess with you.

Personally, I think boxing should be a school program, and everyone these kids that thinks it's cool picking on someone has to get in the ring with the Senior Champ or a guy three weight groups above him.

I'm a junior in high school.

I had a study hall in the first semester but now I have phys. ed. during fifth period. This means that I have to go to a different lunch period. In my previous lunch period, I had met some people with similar interests through a friend of a friend. In my current lunch period, I know a few people, but not well enough to ask if I can sit with them.

Today someone who knew me from an after-school club came to sit with me and we exchanged a few words, but I felt kind of upset after he told me to touch a spot on the table and then smashed my hand as a joke, and right now I'm not sure that I want to see him again.

Also, I'm afraid of sitting, well, anywhere. At the beginning of the year I can just sit at any empty table, but now I'm at lunch with people who could have claimed any table four months ago.

I was thinking about just skipping out on lunch, but I'm not sure where I'd go. Does anyone have any ideas that I could use?

I was in very similar situations in all 4 years of high school. Neither of my 2 close friends in HS ever had the same lunch period as me. I could almost always find a group of people to hang out with at lunch time, but I pretty much always felt unwelcome. I probably should have just hung out in the library, but I hated being called a "loner", even though I pretty much was.

At my school each grade has one lunch period only, so all the kids in the same grade eat together. And I never have a problem finding a place to sit at lunch - I'm always with a good chunk of my closest friends. In my school we're not allowed to eat lunch anywhere besides the cafeteria, so we can't go to the library or anything else. Pretty much everyone has a place to sit, too, except for maybe one girl. I love lunch and I always have somewhere to go.

Well, it turns out that I got lucky - one of the guys I used to sit with at lunch got switched to the same lunch (we both have Phys. Ed. with different teachers). He knows the kid who smashed my hand, and on Thursday all three of us sat together. I hope this arrangement still works. I was out of school Friday.

That's all I could have thought to do (if I was ever motivated enough to try it). It does make me feel like a loser when I have no one else to sit with, and I wish I could talk to people so I could make new friends instead of having new friends make me .

Well, I'm not a very physically-coordinated person. I don't think I could learn boxing well. Besides, I don't like hurting people.

All about practice. Nobody is expecting yout to turn into Muhammad Ali. Just a good form of exersize and a confidence builder. And not saying take the classes so can go out and Mike Tyson people. But you do have a right to defend yourself.

Why is it ok for some kid to smash your hand, but not ok for you to defend yourself? See what I'm saying.
