I put one on every day where I work and for some of my friends, who obviously are not friends to begin with if they can't accept me for who I am. I don't know why, but I can't break the habit. If I don't act like something I'm not, I get riddiculed and made fun of. I need this job badly and I feel that if I were to change who I am for them, no one would accept it and eventually force me to leave by endlessly making fun of me and/or not talking to me.

I don't know what to do. I hate putting on the act for people. I just want to be me...but after so long of not being me for various amounts of people, I'm afraid I don't have the courage to be myself anymore  . Can anyone relate? What would you do?

Yes. My entire means of coping with AS when in every day situations is acting. I sometimes feel like my everyday life is just me playing a role of someone else.

Would you rather be like me? I apparently was not born with your knowledge and ability on how to act ... with one exception / paradigm shift.

I was taught that if your acting is "just pretend" and people know it, then it's okay ... So I have quite a flair for fictional acting to the point of having won Star Trek masquerade competitions as a Vulcan and a Borg. And can maintain staying in character to such a scary-good extent that once while standing near John DeLancey who was signing autographs and someone shouted out "Hey Q!" ... they were not addressing Mr. DeLancey ... they were talking to me.

Back to real life. Any of you actors willing to share your secrets?
