Personally I don't really care for people going on about how many friends they have or if they got laid either, but to be fair, I'm socially inept and asexual so of course I don't, and I certainly wouldn't hold it against them or judge them for it. But yeah, I don't think it's bad to be proud of who you are, as long as it's for something that isn't for something terrible, like you know, murder and such. I don't like to talk about how smart I am either, and I get uncomfortable when people I know talk my intelligence up because it feels like they have a vision of me that is going to be entirely impossible to live up to, considering I never actually bothered to improve myself academically. And I'm kind of an idiot most of the time.
Edit: Also I don't think it's a hatred for geeks, or at least it is generally more acceptable to openly identify as a geek, though a lot of geeks would probably insist they're not that smart either.
