Can any of you handle being in random noise? For example, would you be able to handle being in Iraq for an extended amount of time?

I sure can't. If there is a reason for the noise, I can handle it, but if not I can't handle it and I have so much difficulty.

There are people out there who can control the noise that they make and there are other people who can't. Sometimes, people have to tell other people to be quiet because they just don't realize that there is a time and a place for noise.

This is one of the difficulties that we, as people with AS, have.

Does anyone else feel the same way? Are any of you frustrated about this issue?

This is just a random question. I was just curious about it.

I'm not affected by random noise unless I have a headache. I find that playing a computer beep over and over helps when I have too much noise and headache.

I cant even stand the cafeteria it gets too noisy in there, they last time my family went out to eat (this time with my uncle and cousin) I just sat there very still and mute until the food came, the food helped out though as it gave me something to concentrate my mind on.

Were you overly hungry when you went out to eat? Now I usually have a small snack of before we go out to eat because a doctor told me that being hungry can make you more sensitive to any triggers like noise (along with any other physical stressors like heat or cold). I was at a restaurant one time (noise is a big sensory issue for me) and it seemed like I could hear all the glasses and silverware clicking around the restaurant and all the people talking plus the conversation at the table - it was like a wall of noise. I try to sit at a booth too to block some of the noise - that may not work at a cafeteria though.

Last night at work I was ready to do my head in because the random noise just wouldn't slow down.

noise + a room full of people = tune out or disaster.

I can feel very uncomfortable without some sort of background noise. I will usually leave the tv on for this purpose.

Yeah, I need background noise, but not too much. I hate random noise - I usually have music on for the required background noise, or the TV. Apart from that ... !
