My class was splitting up for group projects, and people got to choose the groups, meaning i ended up feeling useless because i know most of my class strongly dislike me and that i irritate them and that tharefor they would never pick me to be in their group. One group did aski me to join them, and i said something along the lines "if you don't mind me to much." or "if your sure you want to put up with me." (The exact words escape me). They looked really shocked and said "of corse not!" Then looked really upset and hurt. Why were they upset, what did i do wrong?

They probably felt that you implied an assumption that they are judgmental people.

Vince is right. Give yourself more credit.

Maybe people in your previous group projects didn't like you, but it's not an indicator of how these people will feel about you. You won't know for sure until you work with them for at least a little bit. Otherwise, you know what happens when you assume :).

I think they might have felt bad that you didn't feel they liked you enough to join them.
They might have felt that they should be more attentive to reassure you.
Because, obviously, they liked you enough to ask.
