Ok, so I have friends, but we don't really get together...
I have a few friends offline, but really I don't see them. I have a few in Psych Rehab and a couple not. I don't really know we are friends until we chat a lot either online or off and on over txts. I have a phone, but I barely use it for anything other than texting or internet, checking my fs, calling customer service or other various places for whatever reason. I don't call my friends on the phone. I don't get that far. I can't even make friends enough with some people that I already know that I could potentially text or whatever. I'm really no good at making friends or taking friends to another level, like seeing a movie or being over to play a game or whatever. What friends I do have I can't even understand how I got as far as I did. I think they usually initiate it. They start things off. I dunno. Sometimes I'm incredibly bored and need something more. I need a lot of time to myself, but I could use more human interaction. I just don't know how it goes. "Heh, yeah, welcome to aspergers..."
I have the same problem I know alot of people but none of them I would consider good friends. My one close friend moved away to Chicago, so I have really no one to do anything with. I still spend alot of time home alone. I only see these people when I go out for local musical events.
Having a good friend can be a chore! It can also be nice at the same time! Just remember, you have all kinds of people. People who only want to be friends with you when they are in the same area as you, and then many of us who tend to gravitate more toward wanting to have a close niche of friends no matter if we move or not. Many of us usually take it to "the next level", not necessarily a bad thing. But in any friendship or relationship, it must go both ways. If it's not, it may be better to keep to your own space. Relationships, friendships or not, are all about compromise and working together too. So, yes, it is a lot of work! But if you find a good connection in which both of you can tolerate or like each other, it may be worth it in the end.
MacGyver, in your case, I would try to pursue new friends, not too hard, but just keep yourself as busy as possible. Try to meet people based on your interests off of meetings at meetup.com for instance. Many of them will just be showing up to the activity and just "being there" and you have to "feel it out" which is hard for us. But if we don't try, then we have only gained nothing. And of course, don't expect to connect wiht people on a first visit either, but don't feel like you have to stick around if the situation feels a bit too off too.

In my view, I feel it's better to share your life with someone than having to share it all on your own. But yes finding the right person is a chore sometimes and you have to search real hard just to find that person.
I've seen meetup.com before, but can't seem to find activities in the area I live in. All of them seem far away like in New York or something and I don't go to the city often. This person I see recommended I go to a social skills class which could help me get started in finding a friend.
It's like that with most people, no one ever invites me to anything which is a shame. I only want a friend who I don't want to have as an acquaintance because I want to spend time with them and do things with them on a sort of regular basis.
Some people try for quantity of friends rather than for quality of friends-a real good true friend is more desirable to me than making 10 friends that you are trying to make good "connections" with and you cant ever count on or making a "friend" and they instantly try to take advantage of you.

I've been down that road before, me having too many friends is very overwhelming and most of them would ignore me anyway. I do have this one close friend who I am hoping to see soon since she just got home from school for winter break.
even i dont get invitations for attending any functions...neither i have company to check out new movies, or drink coffee.
I am alone most of the time...
I did attend many meetup groups etc but couldnt make any friends...they were merely acquaintances who found me quite
boring
Even at workplace they prefer company of others rather then mine.
All the way i feel im destined to die alone in a isolated place without any company or anyone to talk or share myself with.
I guess we need to accept that we are on the spectrum and having close friends would be difficult for us.
We also need to accept that others will find us different, dull, boring etc.....rather then trying hard to fit
in it will be better to wait for those who are interested in being our friends.

I'm exactly like you, I get no invites to anything nor do they want to hang out with me. I've been alone too long in my life and I want to get out there and see what is out there.
One of these days it will get better, it just takes a lot of time.

I had another aspie who I hung out with tell me I should do more things on my own! I don't want to do more things on my own-I have done things all my life alone and want someone to do things with like I see others doing together. That statement hurt me more than anyone will ever know especially coming from another aspie.

Oh wow that is weird. Maybe this other person hasn't hung out with that many people before. It's better to share your life with someone than having to share it with yourself. I would get upset if a person told me that.

I did and the other aspie didn't really care how I felt about it-goes with the territory I know-and just offered advice on how to do things by myself more-there is more to the story thats quite involved.

I still face the challenge of finding a friend. I just want to be understood by people, I mean there are nice people in the world it's just that you have to find them and it's finding them thats hard. Guess I have to keep trying I suppose.
