I recently broke up with my girlfriend, and that made me realize how few friends I actually have. With her gone there are two people I would call friend, one lives across the Atlantic and the other lives across the state. There are other people, the ones I'm usually around at school. Those I wouldn't call friends, not much in common and I don't really like them too much either. So where can a 15 year old find a friend (boy or girl) during the 3 months called summer. It might help to know I like technology and animals.

After meeting them I still need to 'become friends' but that shouldnt be too hard if we are similar enough.

You are right! First you have to meet people before you can make friends. Here are some ideas on how to do that:

- Volunteer. There are people worse off than we are, who would really appreciate the help. It's also a good way to meet people, and boost your self image and mood.

- Take up a hobby or join a club. These are good ways to meet people who share your interests.

- Get involved in community activities. Attend town meetings, events at local libraries and other local organizations. Attend local sporting events, fairs, and art shows. Attend and/or participate in local theater groups. These are all great ways to meet people and boost your self image and mood.

- Employment/or self employment. Great way to meet people, boost self image, put money in your wallet, gain experience. Since you have been having trouble finding work as an employee, perhaps you should consider self employment. There are many types to choose from.

>> Lawn mowing/yard work/gardening.
>> House cleaning.
>> Errand/shopping service.
>> Wait for service people, so the home owner/renter doesn't have to take time off from work.
>> House/pet sitting.
>> House chores for the elderly/disabled.
>> Handyman.
>> Tutor.
>> Computer maintenance/repair.
>> Website design.
>> Other website based businesses.
>> Paint houses indoor/outdoor.

There are many other self employment opportunities. Your local libraries will have books with lists and descriptions of them, so look into it.

Now, go and do something, and good luck! :D

Hmmm... volunteering at an animal shelter? I don't have experience with making friends, but it makes sense that one would be more likely to make friends by getting involved in an activity with others that find said activity mutually important/interesting.

In my experience, animal shelter workers tend to be very kind and compassionate people. Not the bitchy stuck up types.

The ideas here are def good ways to make friends.

The above advice is very good, you need to become involved in your local community, volunteer to help at a local country park, finding groups that you are interested in and taking up a sport.

Make friends that are going to complement your interest in some way or want to genuinely befriend you because you have a shared interest or a shared sense of views or outlook.

I just visited an animal shelter last week- I had a welt in my throat because it was so sad. If I volunteered there I could guarantee I would end up with about 5 more pets in addition to my current mutt puppy. Luckily the one I went to was a no-kill shelter, but they looked so sad. They just don't have the resources to give them the attention and love they need. It's like animal jail.

I think I'll go to the animal shelter near me and fin out how to volunteer. I can get the hours to graduate highschool and potentially make a new friend (provided someone else there is of a similar age). And senath I know how ou feel, one time we went to the shelter to get a kitten for me and ended up coming home with a 10 year old car named mr cat and a kitten.

Awesome, that means you'll make one hell of a great volunteer at a shelter. :D

<----- Had a summer job in an animal shelter. Pretty nice memories. The Knack's song 'My Sharona' spent, like, 6 weeks at No. 1 that summer. There was a girl working there named Karin. Very pleasant.

Wow :/. I just checked the local shelters website. You can't volunteer until your 16, well you can but with not worthwhile exceptions. It costs $100 and it's only 2 hours a month. I will not pay to 'volunteer' at times not even set by me. Going down the list of the first reply, maybe I can find a club to join.

Find out more about where the money goes before you dismiss it.

I volunteer at a fire house. I had to pay $100 to join and that covered my background check and drug test. These things cost money and they are a non-profit organization. In the case of an animal shelter; they are probably desperately underfunded.

If you join a club; you'll prob have to pay club dues.

I'd be fine with paying. But it's only 2 hours a month, especially Now in the summer I would want to an can put more. Your also not givin all the tasks of being a volunteer, it's more watch the real volunteers do stuff. I would also imagine a club has batter payout than $100:24 hours.

I didn't mention it earlier because it isn't important but im a member of the civil air patrol. I pay $36 to meet for 3 hours a week. Its more more worth the money and i get to do fun stuff. It's not important because all my friends there are like school and just really there.

2 hours a month is a little ridiculous. Most of the places I hear about are dying for help.
