I was diagnosed with Asperger's. I found that hard to believe. I'm friendly! Then I grew to accept myself and the diagnosis made me understand myself. I understood why I have a hard time making eye contact and why I add up the numbers on car licence plates. I also understood why social interactions are difficult for me, even tho I succeed at them. I am a coward/adrenaline junky. I fear social interactions and yet ironically that is why I welcome them!

Welcome!

Your insight about your own friendliness--welcoming social interactions because they cause unease and subsequently, a rush of adrenaline--is very interesting! I wonder how many other Aspies find this to be the case?

I can also be very friendly, but mainly when I am cheerful in mood; I am enjoying being myself, and don't really care whether people find me odd if I am feeling upbeat. But if I am not inwardly bursting with energy, I find social interactions very intimidating and consequently draining, and avoid them. So it seems to others as if I go through cycles that appear more drastic than they probably are. So maybe the extra adrenaline when I am happy helps me to socialize, too?

I googled "disinhibited attachment disorder". However, I do not know what you meant by "clicky". I will respond when I understand your entire meaning.

the clicky was just a standard thing to tell people that something posted is a clickable link, because not everybody [including me] can tell one otherwise.

Auntblabby,
Are you saying that I experienced no love in my childhood? Perhaps. * I choose to not go there. I have always made my own reality.
* It's all relative. If you consider humanity's average, I've been quite lucky.
PS: hope you do not mind a joke. I once worked with schizophrenics (don't we all :D ). The client said to a new staff," you re-mind me of my aunt." The staff responded," I do not know if that is a compliment or an insult. Did you like your aunt?"
Later, I told that staff member," he was talking about his pet ant". Anyway, I made my point! (with the gentle intensity of humor). Staff should not talk down to clients!

dear Wittgenstein, I did not mean to imply that you had no love in your childhood, it is just that when you said "I fear social interactions and yet ironically that is why I welcome them!" it reminded me of me, and I for one, have disinhibited attachment disorder. and speaking of the joke, that reminds me of many occasions in my own life, as well. so are you a mental health professional?

Yes. I think my Asperger's makes me good at my job, empathy. * However, I consider myself a writer. I write children's books. But not on purpose! :)
Just joking! I write philosophy.
Do you know how to get a philosopher off your porch?
Pay for the pizza! :D
My current project is stand up comedy at a local club. The project terrifies me! And that is why I must do it!
* Unfortunately, I keep sticking my tongue out at the clients. And that looks really unprofessional. :D
That was a joke. But I have to be constantly vigilant. I never stick out my tongue or do anything labeled autistic. Luckily, I was gifted with an iron will and exceptional intellect. :D (wait a second, that was true and not a joke! :D .) It is exhausting tho!

you seem smarter than the average bear :wtg: and it would be nice if some of your brainpower rubbed off on me. it is exhausting to try to be smart enough to manage my daily affairs and not piss people off by my general flakiness, General Mills can get away with being flaky, but not me. [a silly joke  ]
