Anyone else have an annoying friend?
So I have a friend that sort of forced his way into my life several years ago and I've never been able to tell him to leave me alone because I would feel bad doing that. This guy shares a special interest that I'm no longer interested in and he is most definitely NT because he never will stop talking and has a ton of friends. I've tried subtly to show him I do not wish to be his best friend that he can call every day and discuss his special interest that I'm not interested in, but he never seems to get the hints.
I feel bad to ask him to give me some space because I think it would hurt his feelings. He was one of the first people to find out I have AS yet he seems uninterested in learning about it. The only thing he seems to understand is that I have meltdowns because on the rare occasions I do hang out with him, he never fails to trigger a meltdown by the end of two hours of him never being quiet and looking at me most of the time.
The guy calls me every day even though half the time I never reply to anything he says with anything more than a one word answer. Usually about once a week I'll be in a talking mood and talk to him for maybe an hour but the rest of the week I won't hardly say anything because I'm not interested in talking to him. Sometimes he will call and after a brief greeting I won't say anything for 15 minutes because it apparently takes him that long to realize I do not wish to talk to him that day. You'd think he'd learn to text and ask if I feel like talking but he's never gotten that idea apparently.
I guess I'm sort of ranting because I'm frustrated but has anyone else had a friend like this? How did you tell them to give you some space and it did it hurt their feelings? I've had it done to me in a very hurtful way by a girl I heavily suspect is an undiagnosed Aspie but that was because I wanted a relationship and she decided she did not. I'd like to still be a friend with this guy and maybe talk on the phone or chat on Facebook once or twice a week but nothing more than that.
Yes I have one who is annoying she always rang me on a sunday night untill I got annoyed with her.
sometimes I see her in the shopping centre and she always goes on about the same thing all the time like "Nothing to watch on tv" or bragging about all her nephews and nieces.
She also talks about dirty things which is a bit off, she never talks about the issues of the day or anything thats interesting only the same old thing over and over again.
Those sort of people just exhausts you and all you want to do is get away.
One time she rang me because she was bored and I was just about to sit down and watch a nice video I was annoyed that just because she was bored she wanted to bore me with talking about the same thing again. ![]()
I've been annoyed at him plenty of times yet he never leaves me alone. I guess I'm not mean enough when I'm annoyed.
That's sounds exactly like the guy I'm talking about. When I feel like talking and try to change the subject to something worth talking about, he change's the subject right back to the thing he was just talking about that I no longer want to hear about. He even will tell me something (a story, something he thinks is funny, etc.) one day and then tell me the exact same thing the next day. I tell him he's repeating himself but it still happens quite often.
I just don't understand why he can't find another NT to talk to all the time when he has bunches of them for friends. All the other people that have gotten to know me, realize I don't like to talk much and respect that by allowing me to decide when I want to talk them.
Yes! I have a friend just like that!
My friend has elbowed and shouldered her way into my life for years and I've never had the courage to tell her to give me some breathing room. However, I actually appreciate her for sticking by my side when others have made quick and sudden exits. Usually I enjoy governing who I spend my time with and initiating hanging out, but she's about the only true friend I have left and I don't want to lose that.
She is the first person I told that I have AS and I made sure to explain to her that when I don't answer her phone calls or texts it's not because I'm being rude, it's just that when we do hang out I want her to see the good side of me compared to the moody and emotional side that rears its head so often.
She hasn't shown interest in understanding what autism is so to make it easier I told her to look at how I have acted in the past and I say, "that's autism. " She gets it but doesn't at the same time, thankfully she has been respecting my space more which is a good sign.

I know that feeling to an extent. I appreciate having him not leave my side at the same time that I've lost several good friends due to mistakes I've made but I wish could have the courage to tell him to give me some space. I'm at least glad I've learned to tell him no when he tries to talk me into doing something or going somewhere instead of just giving in because he's one of my only friends.

I have a friend who texts me or calls me constantly about deep life issues and philosophy. While I do enjoy intelligent conversation, I do not enjoy talking on the phone for an hour on whether plants have souls.
She starts usually with a school question, then before I know it I'm in the middle of a long phone conversation (if it can be classified as such) on some weird topic.

JMac26 I have exactly the same friend. We have very little in common and often I am very bored by him. My other friend says he has a crush on me and he is so attentive. But I find him smothering, I can't breathe. I never answer when he phones me because he is too much, now he's stopped ringing me. When he talks to me he stands too close, he used to touch me and try and hug me too but I told him I didn't like it. Sometimes I will spend time with him but I soon drift off, I lose interest.
Recently after a very long day together at an Air Show on the way home we were stuck in traffic and he was talking on and on as usual, I felt really trapped, couldn't get away. I decided I would explain my 'odd' behaviour. It took a while and then I Just said "I have Aspergers" To which he responded "no you don't, i do....". Subject was changed after that and it's never been mentioned again.
I don't know what to do now, he is the only person I have disclosed to, and I hoped for understanding, now I am really upset about this. Maybe he does have it, I wouldn't know...he is different to me though.
Yes, I have an annoying friend. She's so obsessed with her neighbours next door to her. She constantly thinks their watching her and doing things to annoy her, like wandering around in her garden, etc. I know they are not very friendly people living next door to her, but they have jobs and two teenage boys and so I'm sure they aren't as bad as what my friend makes them out to be. Yes, OK, you do get weird people out there who do bizarre things that are hard to believe, but my friend is really going over the top and I think she is just getting overparanoid. She even admitted the other day that she needs a job to take her mind off of them, but at the same time she is getting herself all stressed out about them that it's preventing her from doing anything else. They haven't tried to break in or do any other harmful damage, she just thinks they are being nosy and trying to humiliate her or something.
When I go round, any little noise from next door she jumps up at and tells me to be quiet then puts her ear to the wall and listens. She has all her curtains shut because she thinks they are going to look in, which makes it depressing when I go round there because there's no sunlight coming in. She starts to get me on edge too. Sometimes she even puts her finger to her lips when I am talking, and points to the wall and mouths something along the lines of, ''be quiet, they're listening!'' Like the other day I wasn't talking about anything private, I was just saying about my uncle's dog and was having a bit of a rant about it, and when people are ranting sometimes their voice raises a little, so mine did (it's just normal tone of voice expression which I don't lack), and suddenly she told me to be quiet, and then carried on the conversation as normal. I don't know her neighbours at all and they don't know me, so I don't see what she fusses about when I'm talking about something genuine.
Her other friends are going to start getting fed up with her soon. I play along with her, but inwardly I just think she is being paranoid.
