I am sorry about what happened to you with your friend. I have gone through something similar.

The situation pretty much confirmed my general rule, which I broke for this 'friend'. I am usually too clingy in certain relationships and I am very aware of it. So I made a rule that I would not get into any intimate relationships with anyone.

However, someone offered to not only be my friend but be my 'Mom' as well, and gave me permission and seemed to be encouraging behaviour I had worked very hard to kill by avoiding relationships altogether.

She got bugged, blocked my texts, and no longer talks to me anymore. Wrote a whole book about it both here and in my offline personal journals. I have cried about it, beat myself up about it, emotionally blamed her for it, then blamed me. But all of that did was make me feel more hurt and angry, and just covered up the real pain.

It hurts, and I'm sorry. Some of us have been through it, some of us have not. I can empathize with your situation and am pretty positive that in time it does get better. We all cope in different ways, right now I am doing what makes me feel good and happy and empowered in a positive way, and trying not to add anymore labels to her or myself, and just acknowledging sadness, being grateful for what I have and inviting happiness into my life.

I was really clingy during pre- and teen years towards a girl who I thought was my friend this entire time when she was not.

I would call her 10 times in one night if I wanted to talk to her and pretty much clung since she was the only friend that I had. She always picked up the phone. Her parents did not like that though and started putting a limit on the number of calls that I made.

I also did nothing but talk about Disney things and dominate the conversation which she and her parents had little to low tolerance of. Rather than be upfront with me, their was this tendency to do things in passive aggressive acts.

1. Invite me to sleep over and then they bailed on me several times with excuses
- The first time they took off to attend an RV convention and that they never really said I could sleep over while her mother had the diarrhea
- Her step father was sick and that I could not stay over
- Her grandparents came up at the last minute
- I got invited to a 4th of July camping trip and her mother led me around by saying that I could go and then told my mom that she could not handle three kids all weekend while her husband had to work. (That was not true since her husband was there)

When she met her boyfriend at 12. and she was too busy for me
- I am waiting for my boyfriend to call
- I am eating (With her mouth full)
-Sorry you have the wrong number

My friend and I split apart for two and a half years and we re-connected since her mom somehow remembered our number. It was when we were communicating that she kept brushing me off with "Call me in the next 15 minutes. I have this or that to do." I did such and she kept saying call back. Other times she supposedly was not home.

Then I finally grew tired of her crap and called her up and yelled at her on their answering machine for a year because I was so upset.

Tell me about it... I think a "friendship" is going well. Bam! next day that person avoids me. Or blocks me on Facebook. Or stands me up for something we planned.

No idea why. I assume I am clingy, or say the wrong thing. I don't really know though. Nobody tells me what I did wrong.

It gets to the point where I expect people to abandon me, so I develop defense mechanisms where I ditch them first as soon as I sense they are about to bolt. And of course then I am the bad guy when I am just protecting myself from likely rejection.

I just have to start all over with somebody else. Only as I get older, it gets harder to find new people that I click with.

You would think that after I've repeated this pattern 100 times over my life, I would have been able to develop some form of coping mechanism to prevent it. Maybe I'll figure that out if I keep reading other people's stories here.
