I don't think I have any true friends at the moment so I'm trying to make some.

But to make friends I need confidence and self esteem and I don't have any due to my lack of friends.

So how can I reassure myself that I'm a worthy person and come across as confident when really I'm insecure about my social life?

No need to be insecure about it, you'll make friends when you meet people with whom you have something in common. Confidence and self esteem are not required for that. Most of my friends over the years have been geeks like me.

What confidence and self esteem I have had came from doing the things I do as well as I am capable of doing them and taking pride in those accomplishments, whatever they are. You can only be the best YOU that you can be.

Keep in mind that AS has a tendency to cause us to think rather negatively, so whenever you find yourself beating yourself up over something, or seeing yourself negatively, remember to a great extent that's an illusion created by your own brain dysfunction - you're never as bad or weak or worthless as you may feel that you are.

So don't let your Eeyore brain fool you into not seeing your own positives.

How does your self-esteem and confidence about your social life factor into this? I don't know if it's different where you live, but people in my area and age group aren't too concerned with how many friends other people have. People in class even reply to the instructor that they didn't do much or go out over the weekend when class starts. Nobody is drilled for information on what someone does with their social life, nor is anyone looking for signs that they may not have one. There are always exceptions, but the norm is that everyone is too busy with their own.
