recent diagnose, depression and misunderstood by parents
Hey everyone,
How to deal with parents who to don't understand and apparently have no intention to look up anything about asperger's or how to handle someone with asperger's ? I feel so angry because all my life I felt like a bad person because of my anger but now I finally know that it was not my fault: I do my best everyday, all day long. I have had three clinical depressions and I am only 22 years old and recently got diagnosed with asperger's ( explains a lot ) and still my parents do not feel the need to start treating me differently or even reading up on asperpger's.
How do you deal with misunderstanding from your surroundings ?
I was diagnosed by a license clinical psychologist whose specialty is Asperger's and autism.
My immediate family don't believe it. Even other medical professionals don't believe it because I don't look like the stereotypical Rain Man character.
So how do I deal with that? I simply don't talk about it unless I'm compelled to bring it up, like to a psychologist or psychiatrist.
In that sense I'm an invisible aspie. If my symptoms were more pronounced that would've been better.

I am sometimes hurt by people's inability to accept me. Now I just keep those people at arm's length and stick with people who do understand me or at least make the attempt to understand. I am not angry. I just know that I can expect support from some people and not others. I accept what I can get. I guess what I am saying is that it is natural to feel hurt but that the hurt goes away after awhile--especially if you find someone else to be supportive of you.
