I have been looking for a job for a good year and I happen to know someone else who lives on the Autism spectrum who is supposed to have good connections. He ended up finding someone who is seeking an individual who lives the spectrum to work as an administrative assistant.

I went to thank that person and he was nice and everything. It was what he did next that made my blood boil.

1. He basically was very condescending with me about being on my best behavior since they are trying to create a new Autism program. He basically gave an example how he was so responsible to create an a better program for the entire state which we live in.
2. He also boasted about being a public speaker for an Autism conference acting like he was more important which is going to take place in Dec.
3. I mentioned that I had also done some public speaking in some panels for the Autism and he basically said "Well I have more experience than you and I taught myself."
4.He then put me down with "Just because you are working for this organization does not mean that you will be doing any speaking. You are just an administrative assistant. If you do anything you need to start at the bottom and take lessons at Toast masters."

He seems to think it is okay to put me down even though I am much older than he is next to growing up long before he did. Anyway I want to know how to handle the situation in a professional manner. I don't want to say anything just yet until the situation is squared away.

I had talked to a close friend about him over the phone and she said to let him "Cook his own goose." She also felt that he is not going to last long with his attitude and especially as a spokes person.

I know that if he tries to tell to associate with me I will tell him "I'm not your friend."

i wouldn't be that direct. no need to make an enemy. just always be too busy to spend much time with him.

Either way I will go the two miles with him on this job situation and I will keep my mouth shut until I am in. If it were not for the job situation I would have probably pulled him to the side to speak with him. Since I have been looking for a job I want to keep it as professional as possible.

I don't want to say anything because he is a dramatic narcissist and if you try and put him in his place, this little boy will try and twist things around. He is a trouble maker.

What I would like is for the right person to sit him down and explain to him that it is not okay to talk to others any old way that he wants.

Another friend suggested that I wait a few weeks when things settle down and then go and talk with the person who would be hiring me. She is head of the organization where he does the public speaking.
