I have a couple of people who understand me (and I am glad of that), but track record shows that I cam horrible at maintaining friendships, especially when I don't see them for a period of time. This is for practical (will be working with these people in the future) reasons and also for my sanity.
And suggestions? Skype, messaging, the normal shite?

For several years, I sent letters to a German girl I met at school. It was, in my opinion, an excellent way to maintain the friendship since I always looked forward to receiving a letter from her. It left plenty of room to write about what had been going on in my life for the past few weeks. Unfortunately, it seems to be getting phased out due to instant messaging, Skype, and other more immediate forms of communication. Skype video in particular is good if you want the closest thing to actually being with them.
