Someone asked me for directions today and I was at a loss for the right words. I had been to the place before, driven there many times, but could not describe how to get there. The person finally just pointed to where I apparently kept glancing and asked me if it was in that direction and if he could see it. I said that he couldn't see it.

Should I just declare, whenever someone asks me for directions, that I am terrible at giving directions, to get out of it?

Or should I study the layout of my college in great detail so as to be prepared for someone who asks for directions? (Does anyone else find this necessary?)

I do that too. I can't describe how to get anywhere. For myself, the method is to start walking, I'll get there somehow. Maybe it's my feet that know, but it sure isn't the talking part of my brain. For directions, sometimes I say "Go that way for a couple of blocks and then you'll have to ask somebody else."

I try to descibe it visually. I tell them the scenery and buildings around the destination. This is a horrible method for those that are not visual thinker like me.

I'm quite good at giving directions, and people always seem to ask me for them.

However, I'm screwed when people ask me the time. I always say it "wrong", or in an order they don't readily understand. I don't know why this is so difficult (or embarrassing) for me. But I stopped wearing a watch because of it.

I´m being asked for directions oddly often, but I always screw it. I either say my usual response "I don´t know" automatically or tell them the wrong direction accidentally. :(

Every time I am asked for directions, I get all freaked out and run away.
I'm so horrible at giving directions that sometimes I tell the wrong directions as well.

I don't think I have a very good sense of direction, so I wouldn't be very good at that.

I'm not great at verbally giving people directions, but I do seem to have a great sense of direction and knowing where I am at any time. I've baffled my friends on many occasions by leading them through backroads that I've never driven along myself and still failing to get lost. In fact, I don't think I've ever been lost yet I often just drive to random places I've never been to. It's kind of weird, but it's one of the few things I actually don't seem to be useless at, so I'm not going to complain.

draw a quick map, or just point in any directon, they can always pull over and ask someone else if you get them lost :)

I suck at it, I hate when I'm asked at the bus stop whether I know where that shopping mall down by Cuba Street is. For the LAST TIME little old lady, I DON'T FREAKING KNOW!! ! (okay, I'm exaggerating, but you know what I mean). Heck, I even get nervous when I'm asked what the time is by anyone I have never EVER met before.

I always use my hands when I am trying to give directions and point where to go.
