Where can people with autism go to make friends?

I know that normal people go to bars, parties, fitness clubs, etc. to make friends. However, these ones don't seem to be very adapted for people with autism. If you have autism, you risk being socially excluded if your symptoms are severe enough.
What kind of places (other than autism meet ups) are good for making friends if you're on the spectrum? Any places other than clubs dedicated to your interests? (I'm planning to try these out.).
