Advice for hosting a Game Night Meetup

Just to be brief: I'm hosting a "Bring Your Own Game Night" Meetup this Saturday night, and I'm a tad nervous. Any advice?

I host games nights (boardgames), and they have been much more successful that I expected. Hope you have fun!

Tips:

- Make sure you have enough seats for everyone (and enough cups/glasses, serviettes etc.).
- Be prepared for a drink to be spilled on a game or something. It happens.
- Provide a finish time, otherwise people will just stay as long as they want, and you might be socially drained before them.
- Try not to bully people into a game they don't want to play. If you have enough guests, split into groups so there is choice as to what to play.

That's about all I can think of. If you have any specific questions to run by me, go ahead. I'm not actually sure we are talking about the same sort of games though, if you mean computer games then I've no experience with that!

Game design consideration:

1. Time between turns, if possible all turns at once, so no waiting.
2. Instead of games where people are eliminated on, instead they continue to play on. So games where it ends together.
3. Avoid games that as so open ended or never ending.

I like trivia games, some strategy by not fantasy. However everyone is different. I think you should mix it up give variety. Possibly split up and have a rotation.

There is a really fun card game called cheat, which is a good open becuase the concept is so simple.
