Which friends to put my time into?
Hi. I am a teen girl. I have few good friends, but I spend a lot of time with my brother's friends. One of them in particular I've known for over ten years, and we really like each other*, (I hope :p). He invited me to his birthday party, which some of his other friends went to. (He's really well-liked in school, like, he's bros with everyone).
I hang out with him and another boy a lot, a handful of other boys and occasionally this other girl. They're all so nice, and I like them, but... Sometimes I get the feeling that they don't like me, or my bro, for that matter. Aside from his birthday party, my friend and his group don't invite us to parties or to gatherings. I don't know why??? I've gone out with them before after I kind of casually invited myself along, but other than that... Not really. One boy has said that I am "always welcome to join [them]." I think they like me? I have spent a lot of time hanging out with them after school, in study hall.
I do have one theory. I think my friends might think my brother and I are to be "protected". I asked for pot from my childhood friend, he told me one hit would do it. I learned that after ten hits, my other friend was barely high, and while a boy, that's extreme! Said boy then told me that I wouldn't like parties, because "drunk and high people are worse than regular people." Maybe so, but I would like to experience one just once. Our friends have made allusions to our parents being "really strict". Do they think they are protecting us? At my friend's birthday party today, I had fun paying CAH and videogames with everyone. They seemed to like me... Or did they? They smiled at me, but I couldn't find a way to break into conversation, although friend with a birthday still talked to me. Then the group got smaller as people left, and I had some good conversations with the boys remaining. :T
I have three other friends, two girls and a boy, who I kind of know but not exactly. They're fun, funny, and sociable, but sometimes I listen to their conversations. They're so... eh, shallow. About stuff they want to buy and people they don't like. Sometimes it's interesting, but I much prefer my friends in study hall, two kids from the previous circle, who I talk about philosophy, fiction, and intrapersonal insights with.
How do I know who really like me and who's just being polite? How much time should I spend with either group? Halp.
* Not in that way.
