I'm speaking for my friend, for privacy I wil change his name to John. I used to be best friends with John, we were the geeks. But after about 3 three years he was starting to act way to goofy. ( I do not have Aspergus syndrome) Anyways after a while I asked my mom why he acted like that, she said that he as a thing called Aspergers Syndrome. For a while I just was having fun with him but eventually he was going around recess (im in sixth grade, will be in middle school soon) saying digusting things and being way too goofy. So I had nothing to do, so I asked to play tag (football was taken away for a while) and they let me play. And after that they thought I was cool enough to hang out with them. Soon it started a chain reaction, and I was soon being mean and bullying John. And must be hard on him because every one else thinks he is goofy and gross. (one time he wrote on the white board John is a hillbilly) Im not trying to be mean but he's really goofy. My point is I still like some of the people i'm hanging out with right now, one of them was even my friend at one time. All im trying to say is how can I tell him that I still want to be his friend, but not be mean at him. But im afraid he will to goofy for me, and I still like to play football with other kids. I'm sorry if im being disrespectful. SORRY IT'S SO LONG

Just apologise for bullying him, and if he wants to spend more time hanging out than you would prefer, say that you have other friends who you also want to spend time with. You could also tell him if there's specific behaviour that you find 'goofy' and would prefer him not to do - part of the problem might be that he doesn't know how to act or that the things he does annoys people.

Also, what do you mean by 'goofy'? How exactly has he been acting?

Well... He makes jokes about bodily functions, and he will waik up to random people and and just say random goofy things. And when I tell him that people don't really like that, he won't understand. And I want you to help me explain it to him. I know im being offense with this, but I really need help.

I was not too different in some ways from your friend. I did a lot of things that were not acceptable, and I durn well knew that they weren't. Still do, to a large extent. I doubt that you're going to be able to say a heck of a lot to change what he is. Part of it is I suspect seeing what others do, and trying to mimic it (that's what all people do to some extent), but not quite getting the boundaries in the same intuitive manner that others do. Frankly, I wish that people could just lighten up, and deal with the oddities. The more time that he spends around others, the more familiar he will get, and the more familiar that they will get with his quirks.

I've said on another thread that Aspies, as kids, take an enormous amount of time and effort in order to 'get' something like stop being goofy. I used to, but I'm less AS than John is so it didn't take me that long. You could ask him why he's being goofy and, because it was such a switch, if anyone told him too (does he have siblings?).

Also, I don't particularly feel you're hanging out with very nice people if you wound up turning on an old friend. Just a notifier.
