what should i tell my friend

My friend and I both applied to a summer program. They dont accept everyone that applies. I got accepted while my friend did not. He still hoped he ends up getting accepted. my question is what should i tell him to make him feel that i care? I tell him when it comes up i hope you get accepted and stuff like that. Is this enough to show him i care and i really want him to get accepted also? Also if he does get accepted what should i say to him when he tells me?

Yeah say that and then make solid plans to do something else with him if he doesn’t get accepted. Like, “Hey, in any case, we can still play video games every Thursday” or something else you’re in the habit of doing. If you don’t already do stuff, maybe you could be like, “Hey if it doesn’t work out, do you want to go to the Space Musuem with me in July? I wanted to do that anyway.”

To kind of make it not such a big deal.
