Friends: some easy and some are not for us.

I have noticed that it is more easy to make a friend in others that also have disabilties, and normal people are alot more dificult

I don´t know. Maybe you are right but it´s more easy to make friends who share the same interests or hobbies.

I have no problem making friends, but the place I live in people tend to view Aspergers as a mental disorder. I usually find as soon as people start to realize I'm a little different they back off, well most of them.

Still working on changing some of there views.... and know if continue to help raise awareness will soon meet lots of like minded people in the aspie parallel planet

I've always lived in areas with large immigrant populations, and I've always had an easier time befriending those people than native Americans. Probably because we all have culture shock.

This is totally off topic but when you said "native Americans" I was reminded of on the Simpsons when Apu was going to be deported. Lisa pointed out that all really all Americans are immigrants except native Americans. Then Homer says:
Homer: "Yeah, native Americans like me"
Lisa: "No, I mean American indians"
Apu: "Like me"
Lisa "No I mean..."
The language got screwed up and there just isn't a good way to be sure everyone is on the same page.

Hee...native Americans (me) vs. Native Americans!

The specialist who diagnosed me pointed out I have a difficulty with my own kind basically. Young white college grads.
Why the hell would I want to be friends with them? A lot of them end up republicans or worse.
Times like now I understand why people get tatoos and such. To mark themselves as NOT yuppie.
I get along better with immagrants, minorities, children, seniors, and the handicapped.

Remember they say people with AS have trouble with empathy. They diddnt say anything about sympathy. I think we get along better with "outsiders" because we know what it feels like and truely act on the "treat others as you want to be treated."

Think about that. AS people truely do follow the golden rule.


By the way Could be your company doesnt care about reptiles also.

I dont really know, is it truly easier to make friends with other that have disabilitys for me? Ive been to private schools since middle school on so I havent really run into any or few and if they did have, it wasnt obvious. I only ran into one kid last year that clearly had a disability but was really smart. Right now Im in a private college so similar situations. Ive tended to make friends with people that were really nice, sorta geeky in a NT way, or were introverted and inciteful people.

I agree with you, asplanet...people in NZ tend to view aspergers as a mental disorder. We are behind in a lot of things and obviously autism awareness is one of them

From the number of UK posts here it seems they are ahead in awareness.

I watched a video where someone with AS gets a card, like a licence to prove it. Plus cards he can hand out to others explaining how to treat him.
