I personally do not like to be touched at all, and that has become a problem when after twenty more or less familyless years I have been legally adopted. My new father is a symphony conductor and he makes his living off his hands, and is very used to the BS diplomatic touching and hugging he calls "Schmoozing". I however made it clear that this was way out of bounds...but now after 7 loving years I sometimes find myself wanting to hug or touch him, but I am not sure how to initiate such contact or to let him know that my feelings are genuine, especially since he is very used to such gestures being meaningless! Any suggestions?

If You initiate the contact it most likely wound not be meaningless to him.

Sorry to take so long but thank you for the reply. I'll give it all due consideration.

Personally, I have the opposite problem. I hate being touched by nearly everyone, excluding my mum and best friend. I don't know how to break it to my other family (i.e. grandparents, aunts, etc.) that I don't want to be touched by them without offending them.
