Right now, I just don't feel confident in any aspect of my personal or professional life.

I've already gone on about never having a romantic relationship in L & D.

I rarely see my best friend anymore because we're both so busy with school and work.

I hate my job(which really does suck, I work as a bagger) and I fantasize of quitting, but know I can't unless I get another job which I know won't happen.

I go to college but it's a community college for Simulation & Game Development. Lately I've been worrying about if I can get a meaningful job with that degree. It's also likely that even if I did I'd have to move far away from home which might be impossible for me.

I've been having body image issues as well.

This ranks up there with any of the times I've felt the most depressed in my life, only in a way it's even worse because my depression is a result of my own perceived faults.

I'm sorry. Depression hurts and makes it so you can't see the thousands of options around you. And yes, your degree can get you a job. One of my sons works at 5th Cell as a programmer. He had graduated with a degree in computer science about the time the dotcom bubble burst and he and 50,000 other programmers were looking for work. He wheelchaired patients around until we finally talked him into going to digipen. He was hired after his first year there.

... and your current depression is magnifying your 'perceived faults', and blinding you to your strengths and options for the future - a viscious circle indeed.
There is loads of good info on the net to provide you with tools to fight depression, anti-depressants may help, St John's Wort is good if you want something more natural, making the effort to focus on your strengths will help.....and MAKE time to see your best friend :) .

Dennis, man...

Simulation and Game programming skills makes you a programming GOD! Seriously, what did GOD do? He created WORLDS! It makes you better than 99% of all other programmers if you can do it at all, but they CAN'T!! ! 8) I'd love to discuss it with you.

Don't worry about love and dating so much.

I also have gone through a very long negative body image phase and overcome it. I'm comfortable in my own skin enough to go to nude beaches. I think that you should be too unless you seriously look like the elephant man or Freddie Kruger.

Who said you were ugly? They lied to make themselves feel pretty! Forget about it!

Ignore the innuendos. Lowering your self esteem lowers the competition.

yeah
u can make monies in game design. just go to the gaming companies once your degree is done and talk to them (hard i know) but this can help u get your foot in the door (get into the industry).
or just post your resume on a jobsite and let them find u.

if u google self esteem u could find some tips on how to raise low self esteem.

Thanks for the support, I've been feeling better lately. I do laready take an anti-depressant, but it's a generic version of Zoloft and it doesn't do much for me.

I'll talk with you if you like. I've only recently started getting into true game programming, I've been using Torque.
