Well, that is rotten. Talk about lack of respect- children are not freaking property that you can confiscate 'just because'. 
I'm always hearing complaints about parents not caring enough about their kids and yet this is too the norm. My dad couldn't care less about me; the world should be greatful for parents (especially fathers) who want to be involved in their kids life.
