The sun rose over the Tuscan hills
Like a peacock unfurling golden quills.
Down by the river, the clear water shining,
They had made sweet love, yet now she was pining,
For after the summer he had to go home
To Milan while she travelled on to Sao Tome.
Nine months later, at home in Calais,
After twenty hours of labour through night and through day,
She held her new daughter, a wonderful surprise,
The baby then blinked, and she had his brown eyes.
After four years of saving for a flight to Milan,
Both mother and child flew there and ran
To his large stone villa just outside the city,
All covered in roses, the scene was so pretty.
She ran up the drive and he opened the door,
He looked at her, smiled, then he held her once more.
The very next day he bought her a ring,
White gold and diamond, a beautiful thing.
The town church bells sang out near and far,
And that night they were married under the stars.
She and their child moved into his villa,
And bathed in the scent of rose and vanilla.
There love, so strong, could withstand any weather,
And there they lived, happy, for ever and ever.
