Exhibition opportunity - call for entry
myscape – a journey into the autistic architectural landscape
A collaboration between Project Ability and Collins Gallery
Glasgow, Scotland, UK
23rd January - 26th February 2010
Project Ability and Collins Gallery invite artists with autism spectrum
conditions and Asperger syndrome to submit examples of work for selection
towards a major exhibition in Glasgow in 2010.
myscape will be a critically significant exhibition focusing on the
architectural landscape, real and imaginary, allowing the audience an
insight into each artist's relationship with their environments.
Artists with autism will often use their individualised way of looking at
their environment as the inspiration for their work. Often professional
and self-taught artists with autism can produce work that is original and
innovative and challenges traditional artistic conventions. It can be
fantastically detailed reflecting the artists’ ability to focus and absorb
detail, or it can be simple and concise, sparsely communicating the
artists’ representations of their images.
The exhibition will be shown in Project Ability’s gallery at Trongate 103
and Collins Gallery at Strathclyde University. This will give us a
combined hanging space of more than 120 metres. These two leading
galleries are within five minutes walk of each other.
We are inviting artists and organisations working with artists with autism
to nominate artists for selection.
A selection panel will meet in March 2009. Up to ten artists will be
invited to contribute to the myscape exhibition, which will open in
January 2010.
We want to work with established and emerging artists who explore, and are
concerned with, their relationship to their environment.
The selected artists will have ten months to prepare for the exhibition.
They can draw on their existing body of work, produce new work, propose a
site-specific work, work on any scale and in any medium. Each artist will
be invited to submit ten artworks.
If you would like to apply or nominate an artist please send a completed
entry form along with a selection of up to ten images of your work, a
biography and artist’s statement.
Please do not send any original artwork the selection panel will work from
digital/print images and consider the artists' career/practice not
individual art works. Images can be emailed, sent on cd rom or as
photographic prints. There is no submission fee. If you want your images
returned you must send a stamped addressed envelope.
The closing date for nominations is 2nd March 2009.
