The BrutallyHonestThreataboutsocializationwithNTs
Its a very good list thought I'm afraid some took this too literal. I'd add a few explanations to it:
1.) social status is EVERYTHING. If you don't have it, it's your problem
- social status is always, regardless of culture, tied directly to economic status. The old 'its not who you are its who you know' has never been truer.
2.) Compassion and empathy only exist to gain social status not to be helpful
- On the macro scale yes. The micro scale (individuals) this would be incorrect. Not applicable to every single person but for the most part, correct.
3.) If your family didn't care about you, nobody gives a damn
- Disagree with this one. From personal experience I can tell you I care (and have cared for) someone who wasn't remotely related to me who'se family didn't bother taking care of or show any affection for.
4.) There is no such thing as equality, it's all a social status game.
- socioeconomic game. True!
5.) Most guys want sex from girls and all girls want primarily is social status. Love is a glorious and grandiose romanticization of the reality that they are only in a relationship for sex.
-The Ladder Theory. Satire? Or so close to the truth its hard not to chuckle at it. The jury is out.
6.) Sex is the ultimate prize for having high status
- if playing the socioeconomic game, yes. This is true at a subconscious level for everyone anyways. I remember one of Carlos Mencia's routines where he asked a couple on the audience about why they were together. In short, he argued that He was the best She could find when it came to money, security and looks came last and that He would have sex with a supermodel in front of her if he could.
7.) There is no such thing as individuality in any culture. You must conform to the conventions or be subject to alienation
- Yep! Even the 'individuality' displayed in the more 'free' cultures conform within certain limits and conventions.
8.) Social hierarchies exist, and most Aspies would be at the bottom, so forget about having sex.
- unless you are high on the socioeconomic 'ladder' and stumble on a partner that is way down on the ladder.
9.) Most people are only out for themselves. Situational awareness is self-interest. Altruism is only a social status game
- Economics + International relations 101.
10.) NTs don't care for brutal honesty because it constitutes being mean which for the purposes of this thread is defined as "anything which challenges the hierachy, ego or social status or flounts the conventions of the society".
- plus you can see how so many laws are laid out so that the truth does not matter.
11.) If you want anything, you are on your own. Ex: if you want love, you have to love yourself first, if you want respect, you have to be respectful, if you want people to believe in you, you have to believe in yourself.
- superb.
12.) People will only help you out of self-interest or social status concerns. They don't give a damn about you
- yep.
13.) If you say what your goals are in your life, you are effectively stating your social status
- Now this one made me think a lot. I guess my social status is 'hermit' . I need to find me a mountain hut now.
14.) Democracy doesn't exist so stop criticizng your superiors in the hierarchy.
- true
- if playing the socioeconomic game, yes. This is true at a subconscious level for everyone anyways. I remember one of Carlos Mencia's routines where he asked a couple on the audience about why they were together. In short, he argued that He was the best She could find when it came to money, security and looks came last and that He would have sex with a supermodel in front of her if he could.
I guess I'm not part of 'everyone', in that case.

The message is that there are three Ultimate Aims in life…
1.) getting laid
2.) making money
3.) gaining higher social status
Other personal hobbies and interests may be used as tools to obtain these ends but they must always remain as tools. They have no purpose in and of themselves. People who place hobbies and interests above the Ultimate Aims are automatically demoted to the lowest social status and deserve to be mocked and ridiculed as "losers" for failing to conform to the majority aims.
NT mass culture caters to the lowest common denominator by promoting the Ultimate Aims above all else. This is because it is assumed that all humans share these aims, even the most uneducated beer guzzling plebeian wants these things above all else - even if he has no chance in obtaining 2 or 3. He deserves his place and if his wife leaves him he might as well kill himself. 1 is the only thing that saves him from becoming an intolerable loser. That's why he needs to marry a woman with abandonment fears who won't leave him no matter how abusive he is to her.
Also, curiosity is a sin if its ultimate purpose isn't to serve people who want to gain money and social status. Humans are the most important thing in the universe. The universe revolves around humans and ordinary humans revolve around other humans who have reached a higher location on the social food chain.
The message: you are a tribal social chimp, don't try to be anything more.
Huh? Not even close.
Close to what?
Yea, I'm being hyperbolic because that's what makes a good rant. How can you say there isn't there an element of truth to this though?
Not even close to me or anyone I know.
There is an element of truth- this applies to some people. The hyperbole, and the part that drives me nuts about the NT vent threads, is the idea that if something applies to any NT people it applies to all. As though close to 6 billion people share some sort of hive mind and have no individuality and no diversity. Pretty much any negative trait or action you can think of belongs to somebody out there and sheer numbers means NT more often than not. The observation (from your list) that some people feign an interest in a hobby just for what it can get them says nothing about the millions of people who don't. There are plenty of people who play golf just for the business contacts. And plenty more who play for sheer fun.
I never said it applied to all or that it applied to you or people you know. That's something you projected. However, it's a message that pervades the entertainment industry, television in particular. It’s something that exists in the collective human psyche even if many individuals (NT and AS alike) rebel against it. Also, most people are subconsciously influenced by pressure to conform even if they aren't aware of it and won't admit it.
Sure, a lot of people play a sport for sheer fun, but you can't prove that they weren't influenced to choose and develop their interest through social pressure. A lot of the collective social entertainment rituals of humans are acquired tastes. Autistic people aren't influenced by social pressure and thus end up enjoying activities that are viewed as odd, boring, or uncool. That or they are labeled as "rigid" or "obsessive" by diagnostic professionals. Pejorative terminology is used because lack of conformity is viewed in a negative light.
1) This is the haven, so why everyone here is expecting some sort of flowery, mentally balanced post is beyond me. People come here to vent their (usually) dark feelings, not make rational assesments of the world.
2) Do I agree w/ the premise of the OP? No, but there is alot of kernals of truth in there. All of us have good and bad features, AS included. There's just as much self-hating going on here as NT hating, from what I can see, and neither is healthy nor appropriate.
3) Your reality =! the world. I've been to great places, and i've been to spectaculary sh***y ones with regards to how people precieve me. So, maybe the OP is just in one of those poopy ones
.
This was originally in General Autism discussion, but some moderator moved it here.
I can't imagine why! ()

It's like the stupid idiots can't have fun by themselves. They need 'ugly people' to make fun of.
Look, I'm really trying to find a way for these beautiful, attractive people to find their state of bliss that doesn't involve violent retaliation. The bullies among them, especially, have been stubborn to admit that ugly people have feelings. It would be nice if people stopped propounding lies (Christianity might be one of them), woke up from their intoxicating slumber of sexual sadism and said, "Hey, wait. We might be hurting some people's feelings here." Then we might witness a number of things:
1. Legalization of voluntary euthanasia
2. Improved drug education programs
3. Less bullying in schools
4. Less predatoriality in general in civilized society.
Excuse me for saying 'stupid idiots.' I'm trying hard after being spat on to look at the rest of humanity as my comrades and not merely as my torturers. Oh, and just because I call you (successful, happy people) my 'comrades' doesn't mean I want you torturing me. Far from it -- I sometimes imagine doing the most gruesome, unspeakable things to you on account of your bullying.

Yes, but because most people are narcissists you're not supposed to say that because they don't want to hear that about themselves.

Opinions, not truths... regardless, my interpretation/revision would be...
1. What you choose to be important, will be.
2. Our views on social constructs are based on how they affect us.
3. If you don't care about others, what reason do you give for them to care for you?
4. Equality and normalcy are unattainable, as they are both subjective.
5. The definition of love, and the related needs, are different for every individual.
6. Sex is not a prize or a right for anyone.
7. Choices are not without a price; individuality comes with a cost as well. It is up to the individual to determine if it is worth it.
8. How you see yourself affects how others see you.
9. A dose of selfishness is not a bad trait to possess; the extremes of altruism and greed can both be self-destructive.
10. Some situations require a light touch while others require a hammer. Learn from your experiences.
11. If you want something, you are responsible for pursuing it. (Largely agree with this statement, actually.)
12. Expectations of other people can often lead to disappointment - live for yourself.
13. Define yourself, or you risk allowing others to do it for you.
14. Freedom comes with responsibility.
This applies to everyone, in my opinion... regardless of where they fall on any spectrum.
