Who else thinks he has one of the best voices in metal (would say THE best, but there are too many legends like Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford to choose just one)?

Liked Dio best when he was still with ELF (which wasn't quite heavy enough to qualify as Metal) and Rainbow, and that was a looong time ago. Halford was spectacular on Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings of Destiny, but You can't scream like that for thirty years and still sound as good. Geoff Tate was pretty impressive. So was Ian Gillan. I think I'll always be partial to Ozzy - his range is limited, but it always meshed so well with Iommi's guitar - even when they hated each other.

His best work was with Rainbow. Stargazer and Tarot Woman are classics. I saw Heaven and Hell a while back and they never sounded better. I liked Sabbath with Dio and never cared for Ozzy. Holy Diver is his only good solo album and the rest are mediocre at best.

It goes on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell! Ronnie James Dio - He was simply the greatest R.I.P.

Yeah...he's good at what he does; I remember him from Rainbow, and a little Sabbath (from the Heavy Metal movie)

Dio is definitely among the best metal singers. His work with Rainbow is awesome, same for his work with Sabbath. Heaven And Hell is an incredible album.

Geoff Tate, its about time I see someone mention him! He is a great singer, but I never see him get the recognition he deserves.

Geoff Tate set the standard for metal singers. When Queensryche first came around nobody was singing the way Geoff does.

I would also add James LaBrie (Dream Theater) to the list.

Sacrilege, I saw Sabbath in '79 with Dio, and then Ozzy a year later with Blizzard of Oz where he played a stack of Sabbath songs, trust me he was by far the better. Unfortunately I saw Rainbow after Dio left, Graham Bonnet was a travesty.

I will agree that Dio had an amazing voice

James LaBrie came around much later than Geoff Tate. Graham Bonnet was a very bad fit with Rainbow. His singing on Alcatraz's Disturbing the Peace album with Steve Vai on guitar is a mind blowing classic. His work on a couple of Impelliteri albums is really good also.

Well Dio did leave Rainbow because Blackmore wanted to take the band in a more commercial direction (or so I've read). I haven't heard 'Down to Earth' in its entirety, but 'All Night Long' gets cranked when I'm in the car. Dio has taken care of himself very well to still be able to sing as well as he does at sixty-something years old, so he has my respect. Ozzy? Not so much.
