E. COLI FEARS SPREAD AS MARKETS TOSS SPINACH
I picture the produce department playing nice pickup game of catch in the vegetable aisles.
Well, "toss" is also a salad term, which gives that headline a very ironic meaning. "Tossing" spinach is to prepare it for eating!
And "tossing salad" is also slang for an act that can lead back to E. Coli issues, bringing this full circle. (And for the record, eeeeeew!)
Back on topic, Jay Leno also had a book of these sorts of mangled english from headlines. The title was "Red Tape Holds Up New Bridge". One of my favorites from it was "British Left Waffles On Falklands". (Meaning either they left some tasty breakfast treats for the Argentinan soldiers, or Labour couldn't make up their minds on the issue)
