Aspie Wannabees
I don't think people mean any harm when they do this. It's a way of initiating conversation, and it might help them relate towards people with AS. Just as long as they don't go overboard and claim that 'everyone has AS' or something like that. For example, my sister tried to claim that I didn't have AS because I didn't fit the criteria, apparently. Then later on, the same evening, she claimed some of the criteria actually applied to herself so if I have AS, then she does too. She's an interesting character, but she is definitiely not on the spectrum.

They're trying to make themselves feel better and *special* by saying that they have something you have.
Once in my high school Drama class I had to say something that I had that I thought was cool. I said I had an autograph of President Bush (note: this was not long after 9/11, when his approval rating was in the 70s percentage-wise). This one b*** says, "Yeah, well, so do I." And other people in the class said, "Yeah, me too." Actually, it is doubtful that that was true for any of them. I couldn't think of a good retort at the time. Nowadays, I might have asked with a straight face (which I do well) a question, "So did you get your autograph at event X?" and watch them sit down dumbfounded.
They're not being mean (something I did think now), but may not have very high self-esteem.
I've had this all my life but in a different way, I share my opinions or thoughts on certain issues (life, death, infinity etc) and (lets call this person bob) bob says "I dont understand". So I let it go and continue on my journey, a week or two later bob contacts me, and shares all these thoughts I shared with him 2 weeks ago, and tells me they were his epiphanies!! !
Its insane!! I never get angry or annoyed by it, I just guess a lot of NT's who speak more "outside" than "inside" the head dont get that something you dont understand can become less clouded in time.
I guess its a beautiful thing in the end, if we can give this inspiration without taking credit, it can make people feel good to be alive, though the only problem being it could make someone quite delusional.
Maybe if its written, or sung, they can't claim it as their own but simply FEEL it as part of them.
Every aspie has a social side, I think its just pushed too far emotionally if you get me so it needs to be in a concentrated form (art, music, science etc etc)
