Rihanna's new song, S&M, is being put on radio ban lists and the video has been banned in 11 countries.

Now, in fairness, the video isn't something you'd expect to be allowed on normal TV anyway, but the song itself isn't actually bad at all. There's pretty much nothing too crazy in the lyrics, the censorship guys just don't like the title.

Watch the video, listen to the song, and judge for yourself:

I can't watch that video, I tried before, and it hurt my brain.

Bans often increase sales, so quids in for her or at least her label.

A good point, which makes me wonder... Are bans just publicity stunts? The fact that more people ultimately end up accessing the banned content pretty much proves that they don't work for much else.

I found that the song seemed only a little rauncher than is usual (in comparison to my usual listening), the movie was interesting and seemed to be trying to look at various issues relating to the media and sexuality.

Maybe I'm being a bit insensitive, but I don't see anything ban-worthy here. I don't think she even swears in the song! No racism, threats etc. Not a big deal. But you're right about bans being publicity tools. I probably wouldn't have come across this video if it didn't get your attention here. Now maybe I'll go see what other videos she has.

Don't know, but probably.
