Pelican and Russian Circles come to mind for me.

Both instrumental 'metal' bands, but often build songs into different textures.

They both sound repetitive on first listen, but I'm sure if you give them a chance, you might come to like them.

I pray to god that by "Modern music" you don't mean the rap stuff the mainstream NT likes.

It burns my common logic ;_;

Anyway, I'm usually listening to soundtracks from ATLUS games, namely Persona 3 and Persona 4.

Ironically, that song is about 6 years old now, but it's still fairly modern in my book! xD
