I have known so many people swear by Firefox...is it really that great? Are there any cons?

I really can't tell the difference, but Firefox seems more stable. Plus, if it get's quit out of or the computer resets for some reason, you can restore your session (handy on WP because it assumes when you quit out of the browser that you've read all the posts).

My next computer will be a Mac.

That sounds like a shortcoming of the computer. Firefox is plenty fast on my machine. IE7 isn't even available for it. Firefox lets me remove ads and other nuisances. This is not a bad thing, rather it is quite the opposite.
